  • Outstanding G Master™ resolution and bokeh from 100 to 400 mm

    This fine lens delivers superb quality over a 100-400 mm range, extendable to 800 mm with an optional teleconverter. *1 An ED XA (Extra-low Dispersion extreme aspherical) element plus XA, Super ED, and ED elements optimize chromatic and spherical aberration for high resolution throughout the zoom range. Maximum aperture is a constant F4.5 while zooming. The ED XA and XA elements contribute to exquisite G Master bokeh.

  • Fast, precise AF effortlessly tracks active subjects

    Advanced algorithms and four of Sony’s XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors drive the floating focus groups for up to 3x faster AF. *2 Tracking performance has been improved by up to 50%. *2 With the α9 III body (sold sep.), reliable AF tracking is achieved at bursts of up to 120 fps.*3 Focus breathing and zoom related focus and axial shifts are minimized for smooth, professional looking movie imagery.

  • Lightweight for fatigue-free shooting

    Magnesium alloy parts and painstaking design have resulted in an overall weight of just 1,840g (approx.). That is remarkably light for a super-telephoto zoom, allowing users to shoot long sessions with minimum fatigue. Inner zoom minimizes center-of-gravity shift when zooming, further enhancing handling and maneuverability. Even the zoom torque has been optimized to ensure smooth operation.

  • Advanced optical stabilization and professional control

    Optical lens stabilization works with α in-body stabilization to achieve outstanding results. A function ring can be assigned to control Preset Focus*4 for quick registration and recall of a specific focus point, APS-C/Full Frame switching that allows quick shifts to the equivalent of 1.5x optical zoom, or Power Focus. *5 A zoom smoothness switch and security slot are also provided.

  • Rugged reliability in challenging conditions

    In addition to a dust and moisture resistant overall design, *6 the outer surface of the front element features a fluorine coating that prevents adhesion of fingerprints, dust, water, oil, and other contaminants. The coating also makes it easy to wipe the lens surface clean.

    Not a single regret about this lens!

    It was love at first click. While the lens is large and not convenient to carry around, it is very well balanced and easy to hold to your eye. I completely forget about the bulk when I am looking through the viewfinder with so much more reach than the 70-200 mm lens I have been using for years. Image quality is amazing, but you would expect that for a G Master lens. Two things that will blow your mind about this lens are the silky rendering of the blurred background and the ability to focus closer to the subject than I would expect for this focal length. I will have a lot of fun with this lens!

    IT'S BIG AND BEAUTIFUL

    I suppose I wasn't sure what I was expecting in terms of size, but it came in one of the largest boxes I've ever seen and the lens is massive... but surprisingly "light" for it's size. Focus is fast and accurate, and the few test photos I've done so far have been amazing. Can't wait to get it out and used more
