Incredible Lens. I use it for macro photography and it also makes a good portrait lens. I actually am using it on a crop camera (A6600). Lens is razor sharp and the macro photos are just so cool. Video is good as well.

Where do I start? I love this lens. I had considered cheaper 3rd party lenses but after some research I pulled the trigger. It performs extremely well, at F2.8 its fast and incredibly sharp, I'm a bit of a prime snob so this was right up my alley. Pros: It's extremely sharp. Bokeh is beautiful when using it for portraits. The 1 to 1 is very nice. Light weight for its size. Good for portraits, macro (obviously), animals, and some closer non-telephoto needs. Good color accuracy. Good bang-for-your-buck. Cons: Learning curve, it takes time to get used to the different length modes and extremely shallow depth of field at 1:1 Auto-focus is sometimes unintuitive and sometimes takes a couple of tries to get the subject in focus, this might just be on the sony a7iii and did not have this problem on the a7v.

Warning, this is not going to be a technical review. .... I came to photography late in life, initially seeing it as a tool that would keep me out and walking while aiding in identifying the stuff I encountered during my walks. My intention was to begin with a basic package and ultimately invest in a quality telephoto (guessing that the stuff I was interested in was ‘out there,' at a distance.) A funny thing happened when I was out with my kit lens. I found I was much more drawn to textures and patterns. A bit of research led me to macro lenses in general and this one in particular. I am quite sure I have barely scratched the surface of what this lens can do but I am impressed by what it can do. Love the easy switch from auto to manual focus. The handling of foreground/background images (bokeh?) is, to my eye, stunning. Looking forward to years of learning how to fully utilize all this lens offers. And it handles distance well, too. The only drawback for me is that if I am not careful, I don’t get as much exercise as I want! With a quality macro lens like this, every step, every stop, every glance, is an image waiting to be captured.
