Sorcerers - Other Worlds and Habitats - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

150 years after it's composition, a lost opera is recovered and a vanished voice restored. A recently rediscovered treasure by one of the most compelling artists of the nineteenth century, Le dernier sorcier (The Last Sorcerer) resonates with themes of power and progress, gender and equality, and the restoration of natural order in an ever-changing world - a feminist eco-fable in operatic form. The work is a chamber opera in two acts written by Pauline Viardot to a French libretto by Ivan Turgenev. It premiered privately in 1867 at the Villa Turgenev in Baden-Baden and received it's first public performance at the Court Theatre in Weimar in April 1869. The story focuses on Krakamiche, an old and once-powerful sorcerer whose presence in the woods has upset the elves living there, and a romance between the sorcerer's daughter Stella and Prince Lelio, whose marriage comes about through the intervention of a Queen of the Elves.

Following on from Morphogenic (DiN41) & Dystopia (DiN56) this new album builds on their previous work creating imaginary Synthwave soundtracks. Bakis Sirros, the mastermind behind Parallel Worlds, provides the skittering rhythmic backdrop which he and Bessell overlay ominous bass lines, twisting melodies and sound design that recall a shadow of the 1980's John Carpenter film scores. Bessell also adds his unique guitar style that he uses in his other well known side project with the synth quartet Node. Both musicians make extensive use of modular synth systems but in very different ways that perfectly blend together in these eight atmospheric tracks. The duo of Bessell and Sirros have a unique sound unlike anything else in the world of electronic music. InchPhosphenesInch presents another chance to enter their darkly twisted sonic world.

Greek synthesist Bakis Sirros who records under the name of Parallel Worlds has become a familiar name to followers of the DiN tag. InchPlectorInch (DiN76) is his third solo outing on the DiN imprint and continues the deep dive into organic, analogue modular excursions that this talented musician is so adept at. The album is built upon two groups of three rhythmic tracks interspersed with the dark drone of InchAtmoformInch and the beautiful, almost Enoesque final track, InchHarmonic PathwaysInch.Lovers of Electronica, Dark Techno, Downtempo & IDM will find much to admire in InchPlectorInch and this new album once again showcases the unique talent of this highly individual musician.
