This is one of my top 5 favorite TV series that has ever happened. Everything from cast, story, background imagery, actors, musical scores, and the history that it's based on is amazing. The level of commitment made to make this show is astounding and paid off amazingly well. I encourage everybody, watch the whole SPARTACUS series! I added the other three seasons. The release order is Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Spartacus: Gods of The Arena, Spartacus: Vengeance, and last Spartacus: War of The Damned. But Chronological order is Gods of The Arena, Blood and Sand, Vengeance, and War of The Damned. ENJOY!

I had watch seasons 1 and 2 before watching this one. I didn't realize this was the start of something spectaular. This is a must have to your collection. The espisodes are awesome! The only thing I didn't like is there were very few espisodes compared to season 1. There is a little disconnect between this one and season 1, due to the fact that they don't show Crixus rise or becoming the Champion of Capua. I still like this show all of it.

My friends were ranting and raving when this first came out on Starz. I thought it was going to be a poor copy of the film 300. Boy was I wrong!!! Gods of the Arena is the prequel to the 1st season, allowing the creators some time for the orignal Spartacus actor to deal with his losing battle with cancer. This is on par with the first season (brings back some key actors/roles). Get the series and enjoy it... it's a great bargin for the hours of entertanment it provides.

While waiting for the lead actor from the first season to recover from cancer, this "prequel" tells the story of the rise of Batiatus' ludus. Though the first season started off slow in regards to the acting, no such problem exists with this season. The new character are fantastic, the those returning from the first season continue to shine. It is a shame the "prequel" season only last a year before returning to the main plot.

This DVD set was produced in 2011 after the original season one "Blood and Sand" came out in 2010. It is a Prequel to Blood and Sand meaning it takes place before, and is a shorter 6 episodes only (as compared to 13 episodes for Blood and Sand). You will learn the background story of this series which actually continued in 2012 with "Vengeance" and finally in 2013 with "War of the Damned". I would recommend obtaining this set if you plan to complete your collection of the Spartacus series.

As a six episode prequel, I debated whether to buy this or not, but I'm glad I did. While Spartacus himself is absent, it still features some great drama, and the usual violence and nudity the series is known for. John Hannah, one of the best things about the first season, is given more opportunity to scheme and plot with his wife played by Lucy Lawless, as well as the backstories to characters who will later play a big role, this is definitely a not-miss.

Season 2 which although a prequel to season 1 must still be watched after completing the first season. I was very pleased with what the show creators came up with to bridge the gap of a real life tragedy and keep the show going for all of us who love what was just fantastic work by Andy Whitfield and everyone involved in this terrific show. The only reason the overall rating is 4 stars & not 5 is because of the shortened season.

One of the best stories and acting of a series, I only wish it was longer, so as to enjoy more episodes. The cinematography is astonishing. There are three other seasons available for this series, all just as engaging and addictive as this short prequel season that sets up season three and four.

Hey this show is a bit over the top but it's well shot, the scripts flow from season to season. The acting some of the actors are better than others but a hundred times better actors than anyone in any of the Twilight films.

I'm not going to say this was a bad movie, but I didn't realize this was a cable series. I thought it was a Spartacus movie. This movie had a lot of adult scenes and violence that I didn't expect. The acting was good, but the story plot wasn't strong. I should have paid more attention to what I was buying.

One of my favorite series of all time. I watched it the first time on my phone so it was nice to watch everything on blu ray with surround sound.

Gods of the arena may be the second season, but it is actually a prequel to the first. It shares its predecessor's epic story telling and great presentation.

This show has 3D effects in it but not made for 3D T.V. after seeing this first show I have to get the rest. Not sure what order the rest of the show goes?

I missed the series on Showtime, so I took the opportunity to pick it up cheap on a Doorbuster Black Friday deal. For the price I paid, it was a bargain.

I loved this series when it ran on cable. Now that the series is gone I can watch over and over. Great price at Best Buy and great quality! I love the storyline and characters, not for the faint at heart.
