Squarepusher - Ufabulum - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

After a 5 year hiatus that has seen him delve into a range of diverse musical projects, Squarepusher will return with new album, Be Up A Hello. After exciting fans with his hour long mix of brain-melting breakbeat and jungle for Warp's 30th anniversary NTS takeover in June, expectation has been bubbling away for official new material. The album sees Tom Jenkinson getting back to using analogue hardware, the same equipment that first helped him develop his sound in the early '90's to craft nine new pieces which chart a journey into harder and darker territory. From rinsing breakbeat tracks such as Nervelevers and Terminal Slam to darker moments such as Vortrack and Mekrev Bass, the album illustrates Tom's continuing fascination with finely balanced psychological overload. As such, InchBe Up A HelloInch gives a nod to the mayhem, joyousness and abandon of the DIY Essex rave scene that was a strong determinant in Tom's work.01. Oberlove02. Hitsonu03. Nervelevers04. What is SHOBALEADER ONE you ask? Simple, it's SQUAREPUSHER?s band! Last summer a bunch of kids got in contact with Tom aka Tom Jenkinson aka SQUAREPUSHER. They were talking about forming an ensemble. Their idea was that they wanted the 'fantasy group' he?d written about in connection with 'Just a Souvenir' to become a real entity that would record & tour. So they had a go at doing some recording & the story so far is documented on this record. The band members are Squarepusher Bass/vocals, Strobe Nazard Keyboards, Sten t'Mech Guitar, Arg Nution Guitar & Company Laser Drums. The overall aim here for Tom is to articulate his music through the medium of a band. Having previously always thought that a band would be a limiting thing.

This album started as a daydream about watching a crazy beautiful rock band play an ultra-gig - Squarepusher. This very aptly sums up the latest full-length from the virtuosic Tom Jenkinson. JUST A SOUVENIR is a sprawling gaze through the looking glass at Squarepusher's vast musical scope - ravers, noise heads, jazzbos and post rock trainspotters alike can unite around it's frenetic sound.
