Squirrel Nut Zippers - Beasts Of Burgundy - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

SQÜRL - Ep #260 [COMPACT DISCS] date 07/14/2017

Squirrel Nut Zippers - Squirrel Nut Zippers Starring In Fat City (The Ballad Of Lil' Tony) To capture the proper intrigue, we recorded while on tour with the SNZ Christmas Caravan in December 2025. We set up microphones in historic spaces like Turner Hall and the Stoughton Opera House, utilizing the natural acoustics of these lovely old theaters. The result is a sprawling musical narrative-part fiction, part non-fiction, and part autobiography. It showcases the full scope of the Zippers' dedication to theater and craft. I hope it brings joy and mystery to our fans, past and present.

The Dark marks the debut of EEA, a newly formed ensemble consisting of saxophonist Peter Epstein, Larry Engstrom on trumpet, and pianist David Ake. Whether performing original compositions, collective improvisations, or overlooked gems from the jazz repertoire, the Dark explores the full range of moods and textures afforded by this unusual instrumentation. Epstein, Engstrom, and Ake have performed and recorded alongside many of the world's finest artists in jazz and improvisational music, including Ralph Alessi, Uri Caine, Scott Colley, Ravi Coltrane, Charlie Haden. EEA allows all of their varied experiences to make it's way into their music.
