This Star Trek series is different from all the previous series, in an attractive fashion. In the ST time line this ST is post ST Enterprise and just before the original ST started. There are some fimilar characters from the original series in Discovery. The new characters are an interesting and many cases a likeable group. There are several interesting and occasionally surprising story lines. The special effects are excellent, but like the other ST series its the characters that make this show work. Closer to the first two new ST movies in character than to the various series.

I saw the very first episode of the TV series Star Trek in the fall of 1965 and have watched with renewed gratitude to Gene Roddenberry and his successors as each new series and motion picture came out. And this new series did not disappoint. It is a bit of the old into the new. The time is 10 years prior to the U. S. S. Enterprise 1701 first leaving dry dock. In this new series we get situations expanded upon that only got a comment in the original series giving a connection to those long ago episodes. I can hardly wait till season 2 is released!!

I went into this show with no expectations and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I enjoy Star Trek in it's many variations but classic Trek will always be king, that being said I greatly enjoy this series. It is NOT Star Trek at heart, it does not hold or maintain the much of the core ideology despite what it says, this is a WAR story. So the Federation is very different, more like the latter half of DS9 but much more aggressive. The Klingons are GREAT! The redesigns and update for the first time make the klingons feel and seem like the actual warrior race they are supposed to be. A space ship covered in the sarcophagus of fallen warriors? So cool! Klingons speak Klingon, not English. Lots of fun. Visuals are impressive, story is fun, lots of special features and bonus content included.

If you're one of those serious trekkies you may or may not enjoy the series as it's approach to 'canon' is definitely different. If you go into it as a new trek series, you'll probably like it. The writing was good and the performances were excellent even when a couple of the stories kind of lagged. Wish it were in 4k, but the Blu-Ray is a big upgrade over the streaming version. Picture is *much* more detailed and the sound is much, much cleaner since neither is compressed for streaming. Only other thing I'd have liked would've been a digital version since I'm not a CBS streaming subscriber.

I know there is plenty of controversy about Star Trek Discovery and I get it. But to keep the show modern you need to take a leap of faith that the 1966 set will just not me realistic today as we have surpassed much of the technology today. This story is very exciting and we all should be blessed that Star Trek is still producing new content. Love the show and I would say that it is the most exciting and revolutionary Star Trek series yet next to TOS.

I am a huge Star Trek fan, from the original through TNG, Voyager and Enterprise...and now with Discovery...! I enjoyed watching these core characters develop through the first season, and it was nice to see familiar faces of actors portraying these characters as well. I had to snag this set when it was on sale, and it was a great buy. I can't wait to buy season 2 when it's released. Live Long and Prosper...!

I thought at first that the new Star Trek franchise was going to bomb out after seeing how they changed up the Klingons once again, but if you push pass any preconceived expectations and you will find a gem of a new series blooming. There is new ideas mixed with old storylines which give a breath of new life to hopefully attract yet another generation of younger fans. It is just plain entertaining and fun.

I'm too young to have watched Star Trek during it's first run, but grew up on the reruns and faithfully watched all the spin-offs & films. All the series started off slow, I still find it difficult to watch early episodes of Next Generation, especially. Discovery looks very different than I expected, but I thought the stories were good and I liked the characters as I got to know them. Give it a chance, it's new Star Trek! It's different but I enjoyed the ride and am looking forward to seeing Season 2!

The pilot episode of Star Trek Discovery turned me away from the series. I swore I was not going to see it because it was not my Star Trek. I gave it a chance (I was desperate for ST content) and I'm glad I did because I discovered one of the best Star Trek series of all time. I'm only sorry the BluRay box doesn't have the digital component. I would've loved to add it digitally as well.

I love almost all things Star Trek. I had no expectations going in and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this first season. The aesthetic borrows more from the J J Abrams reboot movies but still pay homage to TOS in the details. Kudos to the excellent theme song too. Recommended for Trek fans

I have to admit the new Star Trek series really is a step above previous ST series. The FX is excellent, the plots are engaging. The actors are well cast. The only thing that drops a star in rating is that the shows does a LOT of flashbacks. Some episodes jump way in the future and it takes a couple of episodes to build up the story to there. It can get a bit confusing. Still it is a very recommended buy. BTW, I do not consider my self a Trekkie...

I was one of the skeptical ones on this new Star Trek show. I waited until the season was done airing. signed up for the free trial and watched it all at once. By the end of the show i was thoroughly entertained. The designs of the show grew on me. And i look forward to season 2.

Not your fathers ST. I'm old enough to have watched the original ST on TV as they aired. This is more than a little updated concerning modern norms. I'm not offended at all but some more conservative ST fans might be? I really liked it on Blu and can't wait for the 2nd season to be released. Next Fathers day purchase for sure.

Star Trek show has perfectly cast lead actress, wonderful special effects that never overpower actors (as they do in Doctor Who), and story-lines that always excite, though look horribly in wrong time period. Trek fans will realize that show couldn't possibly happen in era of "The Cage," but, otherwise, well worth price!!!

It’s an entertaining show. However the character Michael is just to far over the top in the beginning episodes and the “spore drive” technology and the need of a human to be injected into the drive system is just something I have a hard time believing and getting behind. Biotechnology is just to far over the average persons knowledge and makes it hard to get behind but what it can do is pretty awesome.

As a consumer who steadfastly REFUSES to pay for additional content - regardless of quality of programming - I am overjoyed at the availability of this particular series. All fans of science fiction and CONSISTENT DIVERSITY (paying attention Star Wars?) would enjoy this cerebral and stunning production.

I initially was hesitant about getting this seeing as it was technically an "internet series". My fears were soon put to rest when I easily got hooked beginning with the very first episode. I had binged the entire season by the time the sun came up and can't wait until Season 2 comes to video.

It was hard sometimes to wait for the next show as I only watched the series one show daily at the most. Each show had a new twist or view of a series plot. It does lack in true military philosophy and protocol and the Vulcans spewed very little true logic. Making it more based on emotions than facts does at least make it less dry and more entertaining which is it's main purpose.

I like the SciFi story-lines - but did not like having the "F" word in the show, and the continuing gay relationship through the series. That in itself reduces the show to a hollywood formula, but not the classy style the show has other that this part. It detracts rather that adds.

The disks themselves are great. The show itself is in a different genre from the broadcast Star Treks from the 60s spinoffs. Its almost as if this were a new Sci-Fi show with a Star Trek label slapped onto it to give it some credibility. Its much darker than the Star Treks we knew.
