About this product
COLORS, American composer Daniel Temkin's debut chamber album, is a rich and evocative musical statement, almost a defiance of prevailing modern trends. Rooted in classical, but not bound to the trappings of that medium, it draws from pop but moves beyond hooks and loops. Each track is visceral and organic, unpredictable, direct and expressive. Temkin's origins as a percussionist are clear, even while writing for winds, strings, piano, and harp, as we hear glimpses of intense drumming accents, flowing marimba arpeggios, or the bright sheen of a glockenspiel. Temkin's compositional voice reveals both extroverted intensity, and an inner calm.Across the album, through the blending of distinct modes of thought - pop and classical - Daniel Temkin shows us that new musical terrain exists not at boundary edges but centred between two established worlds.

Grieg is one of the world's best known composers, but the three Violin Sonatas are a relatively unfamiliar part of his output, despite being among his own favorite pieces. Grieg never wrote a violin concerto, and the foremost Norwegian violinist of his generation, Henning Kraggerud, assisted by Bernt Simen Lund, a member of the Tromso Chamber Orchestra, has taken up the challenge of creating three new concertos from the sonatas. In these arrangements the solo violin is set against a string orchestra augmented by wind instruments in order to retain the feel of chamber music.

Klaus Mertens had long been wanting to record the 'Geistliche Lieder' by Johann Sebastian Bach from Schemelli's Musicalisches Gesangbuch (1736). Ton Koopman had been looking for the right program to showcase the beautiful Teschemacher chamber organ in Oosterland and realised it would actually be an ideal match with the program his friend Klaus Mertens had in mind. So in early 2023 Mertens and Koopman spent some (rather cold but) inspired days in Oosterland to record this selection of 24 songs, interspersed with six organ works
