About this product
Vinyl LP pressing. For over a decade, guitarist/vocalist Steve Gunn has been one of American music's most pivotal figures - conjuring immersive and psychedelic sonic landscapes both live and on record, releasing revered solo albums ranking high on in-the-know end of year lists, alongside exploratory collaborations with artists as diverse as Mike Cooper, Kurt Vile, and Michael Chapman. Getting to The Unseen In Between itself was not easy for Gunn. In the summer of 2016, Gunn released Eyes On The Lines, his winning and elliptical debut for Matador. It should have been a triumphant moment, but exactly two weeks later, Gunn's father and namesake died following a two-year struggle with cancer. This experience yielded the emotional centerpiece of the album. InchStonehurst CowboyInch is a duet for Gunn's raw acoustic guitar and spare basslines by Bob Dylan's musical director Tony Garnier, who's featured throughout the album. The song distills the lessons Gunn learned from his father and it is a solemn but tender remembrance, a tribute to his father's reputation as a tough, wise, and witty guy from far west Philadelphia.

Boerum Palace is Steve Gunn's second album, originally released in 2009. The album starts off with a headlong rush into the hypnotic 'Mr. Franklin'. Gunn's fluid playing style, especially as portrayed within this track, provides ample space for the development of infectious musical themes. The track ends in a dextrous duel between Gunn's guitar and guest Marc Orleans' (of D. Charles Speer & the Helix, Sunburned Hand of the Man) vicious pedal steel. The album mixes Gunn's long-form blues / raga / psych explorations alongside briefer cuts that equally display his songcraft. T and InchJadins Dream,Inch demonstrate that Gunn is equally confident with shorter or longer compositions. Gunns voice is joined by an ethereal turn from the Vanishing Voices Heidi Diehl on the albums central and haunting InchHouse of Knowledge.Inch the track opens with a building central guitar theme. This theme allows Gunn to layer on further guitar explorations. The tone set by these musical themes builds into the duo's vocal delivery that delivers volumes despite being uttered in gentle tones. Other highlights include InchCryin' Eyes,Inch an inspired reworking of of J.J. Cales InchCrying EyesInch featuring backing instrumentation from Marc Orleans, and the richly textured album finale InchMustapha's Exit.Inch

Vinyl LP pressing includes . People have written about roads for as long as they've been around. And before there were roads, people still wrote about travel and about landscape. Roads are the stages upon which our greatest experiences and desires play out. Steve Gunn'smusic has always embraced expanse and movement. Eyes on the Lines is his most explicit ode to the blissful uncertainty of adventure yet. His solo ventures, emerging over the past decade and culminating most recently the highly-acclaimed Way Out Weather, have been pastoral, evocative affairs. Here he embraces his urban surroundings through a series of songs that fully showcase his extraordinary ability to match hooks to deftly constructed melodies. These are songs you can take in quickly, but spend all the time in the world devouring. The very large and the very small are present in equal measure. The inability to categorize them within the avalanche of impotent diatribes that pass for categorization is a testament to their power. And what a pleasure to have this music presented to the wider public. This is Steve Gunn's Matador debut.
