About this product
2018 from the iconic indie alt-rock band. After the shocking, and for many, demoralizing result of the 2016 election, InchI didn't buy the silver lining some were promoting that 'well, at least art and music will be great now!',Inch says Superchunk co-founder and frontman Mac McCaughan. InchObviously, any sane person would gladly trade four to eight years of terrible music for not having our country dismantled to satisfy the whims of a vengeful child and his enablers.Inch That said, good music and art still have a lot to say, and the urgency of current events gave Mac, Laura, Jim, and Jon the momentum to make something new sooner than later. InchIt would be strange to be in a band, at least our band, and make a record that completely ignored the surrounding circumstances that we live in and that our kids are going to grow up in.Inch Enter What a Time to Be Alive, Superchunk's first album in over four years. It's a record, says Mac, Inchabout a pretty dire and depressing situation but hopefully not a record that is dire and depressing to listen to.Inch Indeed, like so much of Superchunk's music in the band's nearly three decades together, the songs on What a Time to Be Alive meet rage and anxiety head-on with the catharsis and exhilaration of loud punk fire and vulnerable pop energy.

From Mac McCaughan of Superchunk To write the songs for Here's to Shutting Up, we gathered in Jim's garage (he lived way out in the woods) a couple times a week for what seemed like months. We started from actual scratch with no demos or concepts, just playing instrumental music with our usual gear plus a Casio. We recorded the album in the Cabbagetown neighborhood of Atlanta at Zero Return, the studio built by Brian and Rob (aka Birdstuff and Coco the Electronic Monkey Wizard) of Man or Astro-man? Brian Paulson came with us to produce it.Here's to Shutting Up was meant to be released on September 18, 2001. On September 11, the world changed. Our date moved a couple weeks, but our tour dates remained and we flew to Japan in October. It was a WILD time to be traveling the world. Receptions ranged from Inchthank you for giving us something else to think aboutInch to Inchwhy are you here?Inch We flew home from Japan and left for the UK the day the US started bombing Afghanistan. This was the climate, and the climate was not great for playing rock music.

The genius of gypsy jazz guitar legend Django Reinhardt is well documented in the great InchMemorialInch series that were among the first American issues of albums that began to appear after the untimely death of Django in 1953. The records were wonderfully sequenced, the tracks hand picked from the finest available sources. Presented here is Volume Two, newly digitally re-mastered.
