Symphonies Nos. 7 & 8 [DIGITAL VIDEO DISC] Released 2015 product/publication from C Major

Haydn is generally seen as one of the main originators of the InchViennese soundInch, the inimitable style of playing which is still very much alive today and is particularly cultivated by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. This orchestra has Haydn's music in it's blood, and it's interpretation of his symphonies demonstrates a supreme confidence, musical sophistication and lightness of touch. As a noted American music critic remarked following a performance of the Oxford Symphony conducted by Leonard Bernstein InchLet's have no further argument the Vienna Philharmonic is the world's greatest orchestra. Bernstein's interpretations of the symphonies have consistently met with unreserved critical acclaim. He, of all conductors, possessed precisely the qualities which Haydn's music requires grace, charm and a generous measure of wit.Inch The present recording was recorded at Grosser Musikvereinssaal Wien in 1984 and 1985. This is truly documentation of a master at work.

Kirill Petrenko describes Dmitri Shostakovich's Eighth Symphony as an Inchincredible psychological dramaInch. The composer wrote it while his life was in danger during the Second World War between a perilous existence and Stalinist censorship. The Ninth and Tenth also bear vivid witness to Shostakovich's confrontation with the regime - and his self-assertion. Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings now releases the recordings of Symphonies 8-10 as the orchestra's second major hardcover edition with chief conductor Kirill Petrenko.
