All the words and all the shouting of the men and women, the beating of the fighting people, the roaring of the weapons, the war songs, the neighing of the horses, enough, all the noise of the battle froze over then. Now that the hard winter is over, all this is thawing out again in the warm, mild weather and is becoming audible. This and other excerpts from Rabelais' famous novel cycle Gargantua and Pantagruel provide the associative space for the Ensemble thélème's latest project. Works from the Renaissance (which reflect the spirit of Pantagruel) or modern ones that refer to this epoch are juxtaposed - often onomatopoeically - with InchmutationsInch. For the ensemble, Inchthe primary aim is to explore the creative process that is characteristic of the Renaissance. Here, patterns left behind by previous generations - or by antiquity - are imitated and made their own. The result is a musical adventure journey that is a real challenge.

Guitarist Jens-Uwe Popp and mandolinist Jochen Roß began their musical collaboration in 1997. Since then, they have taken a musical journey from Scottish folklore, to works of the 20th century, and they remain fascinated by the new soundscapes these styles offer for their instruments. For this album, they have put together a selection of pieces that capture the essence and spirit of their work together - their shared curiosity and open-minded approach to music from different styles and time periods. Only three takes of each piece were recorded in order to capture the most spontaneous and unique moments of their musical dialogue.

Space Time Continuo is excited to present the ten Carolo sonatas in their first ever recording! Although the Carolo sonatas were written for smaller ensembles, the original edition served as a blank canvas to fulfill Space Time Continuo's mandate to feature the rich textures and wide soundscape possible in the continuo section. Sonatas XI, III, V and X were conceived with augmented forces and sonatas XI and III are actually new arrangements for 3 solo bass instruments and continuo. Sonata VI is performed with two bassoons, harpsichord and bowed bass (5-string low-pitched bass violin) but the other five are closer to what was suggested by the original 's title page Inchtwo solo bass instruments plus one continuo,Inch but with variation in the instrumentation of the solo voices and keyboard choice.
