I had been keeping an eye on this TV for a while, but was planning to wait and purchase one of the updated 2023 TCL models when they were released later this year. However, the stars recently aligned (gift card in hand, temporary sale, open box item near me, and Tears of the Kingdom coming out soon), so I jumped on the current 55" 655 Roku model. I am honestly kind of blown away at how good this TV looks, especially for the money. I'm moving up from a 2018 TCL 43" 5 series, which was already a good value for the money back then, but it's practically a night-and-day difference. The 655 is plenty bright, even during daytime watching with the blinds partially open. The backlight dimming feature allows for super dark blacks and very high contrast, and I only notice the blooming artifacts in very specific circumstances if I'm really trying to find them. Color seems pretty solid - I did not spend much time calibrating, but the movie preset with normal color temp and a slight backlight boost looks good to me. I love that the 144Hz variable refresh rate allows for higher quality 40fps options on some PS5 games e.g. Horizon Forbidden West. Also, while this can vary from one unit to the next, I definitely got a good panel with almost no backlight bleed, no noticeable dead pixels, and fairly even grays and blacks. I'm sure that if I knew exactly what to look for, I'd see some gradient color banding or motion processing issues blah blah blah, but I'm sure I'd have to spend at least twice what I paid for any noticeable improvement. The only downside - the built-in speakers are not good, but that should be expected of pretty much any TV. It's a limitation of physics, and most people should be using a soundbar, anyway. This TCL 655 seems like the obvious best choice for getting most of the useful advanced features in the <$1000 range.

let me just say, i had this specific tv picked out for a while, before i actually purchased it. this is an absolutely excellent tv, especially for the price. bang for your buck is awesome especially so with this particular model. colors look excellent right out the box, without doing any calibration, for those wondering. it also has a suite of gaming features, & pairs excellently with a ps5. This thing has auto low latency mode, & amd vrr for gaming. which means it does do 120fps, as it does has hdmi 2.1, & a 144hz screen. to anyone who reads this review, this tv was worth every penny & i highly recommended this specific model (6 series - 55r655) for anyone already looking at a tcl. i could literally go on about the performance of this thing. Have nothing bad to say about it. The stand it comes with looks really cool as well, as its not the normal legs. Makes it look as tho it's floating. You'll see. Please, try one out if u get the chance.

Excellent TV with an excellent picture and sound. Brightness is superb, even in an extremely bright room. It doesn't have any external buttons and if the remote goes missing, downloading the Roku app onto your phone is a breeze, which works surprisingly well also. Notice the photo I've uploaded, that's a screenshot from a video I took from about 35 feet away in my driveway!! It's truly an amazing picture.

For its expense, this TV beat up my 2018 Vizio 55” in every way. Massive increases in local dimming zones (from 56 in the Vizio to over 400 with Mini LEDs), 120Hz gaming, better image processing, increase in response time (including startup time), and a very usable menu. I exchanged this model for a Hisense U8H as I watched many reviews that claimed it was so much better, but it is NOT. The U8H has wickedly bad color banding issues, and is not nearly the step above proclaimed by reviewers. It especially shows up poorly in Dolby Vision, which is massively misrepresented as the U8H displays it in 8-but format! This TCL is a *fine* display, and you would enjoy it coming from almost any other display, 2020 and earlier. TCL displays punch far above their classes, a great *VALUE* for the prices.

This TV is far worth what you get for your money. Did extensive research on which tv to buy in this price range that was capable of 120Hz refresh rate for PS5 and Xbox Series x. I am BLOWN AWAY at the picture quality of this tv. Set up was a breeze 20 minutes had the stand attached and apps i frequently used already downloaded. The picture quality is crisp clear and very bright. God of war never looked better. Highly recommended this tv got it on sale for 650

Picture is great. Love the stand and how I can put it on any table regardless of size. Also the cable management is great as well, I was able to hide my Apple TV 4K in the stand along with the wires to give my TV a cable less appearance from the front. Speakers are less than stellar. I had to get a sound bar. Another reason I had to get a sound bar is because I couldn’t control the volume of the tv with my Apple TV remote, with the addition of the sound bar that was all possible.

The sound and picture quality of this TV is amazing! We are enjoying this TV so much with it's Roku system that is very simple and easy to use. Being able to display 4K at 120hz adds to the overall viewing experience, which really compliments the PS5 as well. It's definitely worth the purchase!

Everything I want in a tv. This is the 3rd TCL Roku tv I’ve bought. Great value for the price. Beautiful picture, easy to use, Have them all on brackets so they can be angled to where I’m watching. However sound is better when tv is against a wall.

Great gaming TV for PS5/Xbox series X on a budget. I did a lot of research before making this purchase when I was looking for the best TV in terms of Quality/Dollar to use with a PS5 and Xbox series X to make sure I had enough TV to fully utilize the system and this is the one I landed on. If you have one or both systems and that is the primary reason for buying a TV than this is a great way to go.

I signed up for 4K through YouTube TV and the picture quality is noticeably different. I’m really enjoying this TV. I just ordered the Roku Streambar Pro and subwoofer for improved sound. I like the fact that the entire setup uses the same remote. I have Total Tech, so setup was done by Best Buy for free.

Picture looks nice. Built-in speakers sound thin and poor, but I connected a receiver for audio. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is an audible buzzing\hissing noise from this TV any time there's a black screen, but its *much* louder when local contrast is set to high or medium. I can actually hear it from across the room @ high or medium, but it's still audible when standing beside it, even @ low or off. Seems to be getting louder since I purchased in late November. I also created a video of the sound, but Best buy doesn't allow uploading of videos. Too bad. I'm debating a return because I have about two weeks to return the holiday purchase.

This TV feels premium for a budget TV. It looks great (love the center position stand). the picture quality is on par with more expensive options. eARC is still a hit or miss when pairing with a soundbar. Another gripe is the TV Brightness setting is not independent of picture mode. I find myself selecting Darker for SDR and Brighter for HDR so I'm always switching back and fourth depending what I'm watching (SDR or HDR), a little annoying. Other than that the picture looks very good.

I returned my tv because it would smell like something burning when turn on. I kept for two weeks thinking the smell would disappear but it didn’t. Even other people notice the smell without me saying anything. The black screen had grey patches. If I’m watching live tv the screen would start flashing but this only occurs when using the spectrum tv app beside that everything else was great. Excellent gaming experience with my ps5, Disney+ was also great I never seen the iron man suit so alive and vibrant the picture quality is perfect for cgi. I was really hoping the smell would stop I wanted to keep it but I don’t wanna get cancer breathing whatever that smell was. Got pics of the flashing screen!!!

I replaced my Samsung with TCL by friend suggestions. You can't beat this TCL TV and price for what you get. Picture quality & sound is the best. From a software point of view, Roku software on this TCL BLOWS away the Samsung software. TCL TV is so much easier to use. After using TCL TV, I want to get a 75inch TV for my living room. I highly recommend TCL.

We replaced our Samsung LED with this TCL as it was advertised as a good choice for bright rooms. And it did not disappoint as we can see the picture quite nicely even on the brightest of days in our new sunroom.

I haven't owned a TV since 2014. All my friends and family told me I should get one so they can watch something when they come over. I searched for like 4 months trying to find the best for the price. The colors are vibrant it sounds alright. You should get at least a sound bar if you buy it. I just wish I could search the internet with it.
