Team Dresch - Captain My Captain - VINYL LP

Captain My Captain shows Team Dresch finding and creating community, elevating and becoming dykons. Drummer Melissa York joins the fold, adding a level of NYC showmanship to the quintessentially Northwestern, T-shirted live act. Already they commanded a level of assurance and confidence, staying true to the underground's autonomous spirit; Remember who you are, Make up who you are, they roar over the noise of busted closets. The fierce and biting lyrics are aided by raging, skilled punk rock sounds, creating one of the most intense and meaningful punk revival albums to date. Team Dresch is able to accomplish more in this 35 minutes than many bands can in their entire career. Punk rock will never be the same.

Vinyl LP pressing. Combining the brazenness of Riot Grrrl with the angst dirge of grunge, Team Dresch didn't just raise the stakes of queercore They created two near-perfect albums about longing, freedom, and belonging over guitar riffs as epic and intense as Jody Bleyle and Kaia Wilson's poetic couplets. On their 1995 debut, Personal Best, they rage against the Christian right and small towns, then kiss their girlfriends on the mouth. Donna Dresch, Bleyle, and Wilson play ferocious, intricate riffs fast while Marcéo Martinez hits the drums hard. To paraphrase their own song, they are amazing; their words save us. TEAM DRESCH ARE BACK with a NEW FUCKING RECORD, 30 years after their last full-length . Sure, yeah, that's a long time between releases. BUT, aren't you dying to hear what 30 years of living, laughing, loving, and losing collagen sounds like? This album SOUNDS LIKE lungs full of grief expelling, eyes and guts wide open, yearning to be one with animals and nature, metal-flange-goth-grunge-punk-ass-rock-and-roll, loaded with inimitable vocal melodies and harmonies, Donna Dresch's soaring guitaring that grabs you by the heart, so many other rad guitar parts all orchestrally intertwining, ass-thumping bass, and drumming mastery that deserves it's own Grammys. The songs are wildly dynamic, compelling, moving, and just... BIG, in feeling and sound. Team Dresch is Donna Dresch, Jody Bleyle, Kaia Wilson, Marcéo Martinez, and Melissa York. Bleyle and Wilson share vocal duties, while Martinez and York take turns bashing the S**t out of their drum kits. Bleyle, Dresch, and Wilson all take turns with guitars and bass on this record. Well, Kaia played bass on just one song (but not on the song InchOne SongInch). The lyrics tell stories of loss and grief, transition and transience, and telling the Christian Right to F**k right off, again. They paint landscapes rich in flora and fauna. In one way or another, these songs are all LOVE songs, when you look at love as the multitude of meaning that it is. If you're already familiar with Team Dresch's now widely considered classic emo-queercore sound, this record will give you some of that, but it's going to take you on some unexpected twisted turns as well.
