About this product
Aspiring diva Prudence Budell (Kathryn Grayson) knew what she wanted in a singing partner and she found it on the street! Mario Lanza, already a recording sensation in 1949, made his screen debut in this glowing box-office success. As singing truck driver Johnny Donnetti, the broad-shouldered tenor proved he could handle lines with ease and warmth. And he amply showcased what everyone already knew - he could belt out a song (highlights include Donizetti's Una Furtiva Lagrima and Verdi's Celeste Aida). Grayson, who had a lifelong ambition to perform on the operatic stage, graced Verdi's Caro Nome with her bright coloratura. And, in his final movie, Jose Iturbi teamed with his sister for Chopin's stirring Revolutionary Etude.

When two squabbling ex-marrieds are cast as squabbling Renaissance romantics in a musical The Taming of the Shrew, life imitates art and art imitates life -- and it all proves no musical comedy imitates Kiss Me Kate, the backstage/onstage delight from the 1948 Broadway smash, featuring 14 peerless Cole Porter songs. Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson are the tangled twosome "So in Love" despite her "I Hate Men" flash points. Ann Miller add
Young lovers Doris Day and Gordon MacRae return in a moonlit sequel to On Moonlight Bay. Doris and Gordon spin through the Winfield kitchen to Ain't We Got Fun, Doris crows King Chanticleer at a stage pageant, and the whole town heads to Miller's Pond and laces up the ice skates for the title-tune finale. Like it's predecessor, this draws from Booth Tarkington's Penrod stories for it's portraits of heartland mirth, values and warm hearts, cold feet romance.
