Directed by Peter Brook (Lord of the Flies, King Lear, Meetings with Remarkable Men) and based on the Tony Award-winning play by Peter Weiss (Mirage), this spellbinding tale of Inchslashing power and disturbanceInch (The Film Daily) bristles with the riveting energy and InchexcellentInch (Variety) performances by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre Company, including Ian Richardson (Brazil, From Hell, Dark City) and Patrick Magee (A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Chariots of Fire). Brimming with raving lunatics, crackling whips, catatonic seizures - and even musical interludes - Marat/Sade is an Inchexciting, overwhelming [and] stunning tour de forceInch (Boxoffice)! When notorious social critic - and inmate of Charenton's asylum for the insane - the Marquis de Sade (Magee), stages a play about the murder of the French Revolution's Jean-Paul Marat, the production takes on an alarming life of it's own. And as tempers flare, arguments rage and chaos engulfs both the sane and the mad, the inmates finally turn against their keepers in a brilliant, breathtaking and completely bizarre conclusion... that will leave you raving for more! Clifford Rose (Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides, TV's The Secret Army), Glenda Jackson (Women in Love, A Touch of Class, Sunday Bloody Sunday), Freddie Jones (Dune, The Elephant Man, Krull), and Michael Williams (Henry V, Eagle in a Cage) complete the cast.
