The Capture - DVD

The next installment of the acclaimed Bruckner cycle by the Staatskapelle Berlin and conductor Daniel Barenboim. The 7th Symphony is characterized by great spaciousness and profound solemnity; it speaks of grief and lamentation, but also of their transcendence. InchTremendous... Barenboim and the Staatskapelle seem to have this work in their systems... unfolded organically at it's own pace rather than... being self-consciously interpreted or led.Inch - The Guardian Blu-ray and DVD.

The great John Sturges (Bad Day at Black Rock, The Magnificent Seven) directed this tale of a badly injured fugitive telling his life story to a priest. Lew Ayres, Teresa Wright, and Victor Jory star in this Republic feature from author Niven Busch, who had provided thrills with Duel in the Sun. With The Capture, we learn that killing a man is one thing, but loving his wife is quite another. Both are DYNAMITE!

From writer Niven Busch, the author of Duel in the Sun, comes an equally torrid sizzler, loaded with the intrigue and passion that marked the golden age of cinema. Cast with strong performers, this story of guilt and forbidden love still packs a jolt. Injured and on the run from police, Lin Vanner (Lew Ayres) confesses the sordid details of his life to a priest, which includes the death of a man he'd turned over to the police. Vanner also reveals that he fell in love with the dead man's widow (Teresa Wright), only to have his past catch up to him. Haunting and offbeat, The Capture (1950) was directed by one of Hollywood's best, John Sturges (The Great Escape). Newly restored in HD.
