A Colossal Waste of Light does an excellent job of framing the quintet as one of today's most compelling purveyors of lopsided guitar pop workouts and earworm-laden vocal melodies. It also proves that great guitar pop can still evoke favorites from a glorious past - the penetrating moodiness of XTC's Black Sea, or R.E.M.'s Fables of the Reconstruction, comes to mind - while refusing to waste time on idle nostalgia. On their 4th full-length album (but 17th vinyl offering if you include previous 7Inchs and EPs) the Portland, OR band also rediscover the beauty of firsts. A Colossal Waste of Light marks the first time the band wrote songs remotely (Inchit ended up being fun & weird to send out a very simple version of a song and see who came back first with another part for itInch, John Moen looks back), their first reunion at the Destination Universe studio post-isolation, and their first batch of melodious new tunes since The Accidental Falls, the band's 2020 project with poet, lyricist and Tim Buckley collaborator Larry Beckett (an extra-ordinary pairing that allowed Eyelids' two frontmen/tunesmiths, Chris Slusarenko and John Moen, to find a new, multilayered appreciation for the art of songcraft).

Many years before she made audiences laugh starring on MTV's Mary + Jane (Produced by Snoop Dogg) and Oxygen's Funny Girls, she knew that being different was her greatest strength. That free spirit defines her first album for Blue Élan Records, Take One Thing Off. InchGrowing up, I was painfully weird, but blissfully unaware of it,Inch she smiles InchI was everybody's lovable little weirdo. After college, I moved to New York. I knew I wanted to be in show business, and in my mind, the way to make it was to be the most original, most creative, and most outside-the-box.Inch She went way outside-the-box, spending nearly five years as a draw in New York's burlesque scene named as one of the Huffington Post's Inch20 Burlesque Stars to Know,Inch to boot. With this unforgettable experience under her belt, she traded the Big Apple for Los Angeles in 2012. Throughout 2016, Durwood architected what would become Take One Thing Off with Dave riding shotgun in the producer's chair. The 19-track album intermingles a hysterical stand-up set at underground Los Angeles comedy theater The Pack with songs loosely mapped over Scout's time in New York.
