The Gay Divorcee - BLU-RAY

This song-and-dance filled romp directed by Ernst Lubitsch is the most memorable of several film adaptations of Franz Lehar's operetta. When the kingdom of Marshovia's wealthiest widow, Sonia (Jeannette MacDonald), goes off to Paris, the king sends the village's greatest lover, Prince Danilo (Maurice Chevalier), to woo her so she will marry him and return to the small kingdom with her riches. But Danilo is distracted from his royal task

Beautiful Austrian political refugee "Johnny" Jones is about to be deported, leaving the loving arms of a married Manhattan publisher for the waiting arms of the Nazis. The solution: instant citizenship via a marriage of convenience with flat-broke writer Bill Smith, in which the only thing they'll share is the same last name. Hedy Lamarr plays Johnny and James Stewart plays Bill. Think there's any chance this marriage will remain stric

Heaven's harps and wings are nice, but what showman extraordinaire Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. wants most now that he's no longer on Earth is to put on another extravaganza. It would have the brightest stars and creative talents. The most in glamour, gams and optimism. In short, it would be like Ziegfeld Follies. With a who's who of credited and uncredited Hollywood talents, this all-star revue is heaven to fans of musicals. Fred Astaire dazzles once, twice four numbers in all. Red Skelton reprises his funny Guzzler's Gin skit. Esther Williams swims, Lena Horne sings, and Judy Garland spoofs snobbery. There's Verdi opera and Fanny Brice vaudeville. Patter and pantomime. And The Babbitt and the Bromide, with Gene Kelly joining Astaire in their first-ever screen pairing. What a show! The man called Flo must be proud.
