The Inspector General [DIGITAL VIDEO DISC] Released 2015 product/publication from Reel Vault

The Inspector General is a Technicolor tour-de-force for Danny Kaye, who stars as Georgi, a goodhearted soul traveling with a medicine show. Customers are promised the best of health when they purchase a bottle of phony magic elixir, but Georgi's conscience won't allow him to go along with the ruse. Kicked out of the show, Georgi stumbles into a village where he is mistaken for the Inspector General. The corrupt mayor, anxious to protec

Danny Kaye plays a buffoon who is mistaken for a prominent visiting bureaucrat (The Inspector General, of course!) in a small European village. You see, the town's officials are skimming tax money and so they do all they can to throw Kaye off their trail, in this riotous musical comedy, based on a story by Gogol.

Danny Kaye (Georgi) is an illiterate member of a wandering band of gypsies led by Yakov (Walter Slezak). Georgi escapes from a travelling medicine show when he says that the elixir they're selling is a fraud. Tired and hungry, he wanders into the town of Brodny and is arrested as a vagrant and sentenced to hang the next day by the police chief (Alan Hale). The town is run by a corrupt Mayor (Gene Lockhart), whose employees are all his cousins and equally corrupt and incompetent. They learn the Inspector General is in their neighborhood, and probably in disguise. When Georgi enters the town, they mistake him for the Inspector and plot to have him killed. Yakov, the leader of the gypsies comes into town and convinces Georgi to stay on pretending to be the Inspector General. Meanwhile, the real Inspector General arrives and finds Georgi to be a true and upstanding individual. The rest is a wonderful story with a pleasant ending! But, watch this classic to find out how things really turn out for Georgi. This is a timeless piece featuring the great Danny Kaye! (102 minutes - 1949 - Color - 4 3).
