The Men - Mercy - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

New York band The Men have always been genre-morphic and unpredictable, but on their eighth album Mercy they have truly done something new as a band. For the first time since forming, they have now created three straight records with the same lineup, and the result is a sound that feels developed and continuous despite running the gamut of mood, in true Men fashion. Having this lineup stability has allowed the band to deepen and finesse the sounds they were exploring on 2017's Drift and produce tracks that have a unique and distinct voice. Mercy was recorded live at Serious Business studio to 2Inch tape with Travis Harrison. The band did minimal overdubs, contributing to the urgent feel of the recording. The album is simply the sound of a band that has a deep and unjaded passion for songwriting and creation, working at the peak of their collaborative connection. Founding guitarist and vocalist Nick Chiericozzi described the band's process by way of an anecdote borrowed from Jeff Daniels about his time working with Robert Altman InchDaniels said, 'Altman will tell you, 'Now walk through that doorway,' but what he doesn't tell you is that he's got three people walking through the door from the other direction.' Doesn't that sound like a Men record? We've got 'Children All Over the World' saying hello to something like 'Fallin' Thru'. Mercy has a place next to Drift and it's now a distant neighbor to New Moon, Devil Music and the others. It's a wholly contained universe that shares the ash, the birth and the memory; the things motion takes with you after bumping into someone. We hope you enjoy the record and what it brings.Inch Mercy takes the listener on a cinematic journey throughout it's seven tracks, beginning with the soothing but lonesome country rock opener InchCool Water.Inch This track, like many on the record, feels timeless, illustrating the band's ability to

Currie Lahti Symphony Orchestra Slobodeniouk - Sieidi / Symphony 5 - SUPER-AUDIO CD [Super Audio CD (SACD)]

With 17 symphonies and 32 concertos to date, Kalevi Aho is one of today's most prolific composers of large-scale orchestral scores. The present brings together two works separated by 35 years, but also by the reception they have enjoyed whereas Sieidi, the percussion concerto Aho composed in 2010, has become one of his most performed works, Symphony No. 5 from the mid-70s is a rarely heard score. Sieidi was written for Colin Currie, who has recorded it here and who performs the concerto with orchestras across the world. It's title, a word in Sami, is used in reference to the rituals and shamanism of indigenous peoples around the world, and the solo part, which makes use of nine different percussion instruments, begins and ends with the djembe and darbuka, drums usually heard in African and Arab music. The instruments are placed in a row towards the front of the stage, and during the course of the work the soloist makes his way across the , from the right to the left and back, reinforcing the ritualistic dimension of the piece. Currie is supported by the Lahti Symphony Orchestra under it's principal conductor Dima Slobodeniouk, a team with a deep familiarity with Aho's music. This stands them in good stead when they take on the highly complicated score of Symphony No. 5, which in places even calls for a second conductor wishing to express the incoherence of human existence, the composer let's various, often unrelated musical events overlap, at times dividing the orchestra into two parts playing at different speeds. Composing the work was 'an exceptional effort' according to Aho, who adds that it left him 'with the liberating feeling that everything was now possible - that any musical problem or crisis could be overcome.'

Nevermen - Nevermen - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2016 , the debut album by this alt-rock band formed by Faith No More's Mike Patton, TV On The Radio's Tunde Adebimpe and rapper/producer Doseone. This has been highly anticipated ever since the project was announced in 2008. Nevermen is neither side-project nor super group; it's merely meant to be - a years-in-the-making partnership in which these men shared all duties, discovering their collective sound with the sort of glee and freedom usually reserved for first-timers. Amid this wild, weird churn of rock, pop, rap, soul, and other, it's shockingly easy to lose track of who's singing at what moment, and that's the point to quote Tunde/Adam/Mike in song, InchThe frontman digests it's self.Inch Nevermen, the album, finds these three giants shredding their egos to get at the heart of why they do what they do, to explore the hopes and fears and wins and losses of anyone who carves career out of what started as dream.
