I got the game because I heard it had some pretty good representation and the concept of a horror platformer sounded interesting considering I've personally never played one. Overall I really enjoyed my time and the more I think about it the better I like it after finishing. Now it's not perfect - although interestingly I hear a lot of ppl felt the movement speed was too slow, but for me It felt like the perfect speed. It gave weight to the character. Tho I do think specific foreground to background elements could have been easier to navigate. Also a specific boss should have had more save points and clear instructions but it's not a total deal breaker considering it's the only thing in the game I feel was unfair out of everything else. Being new to these types of platformers I enjoyed my time but was much more intrigued by the narrative elements and the development of characters in the text portion of the game. Overall if you like indie feeling platformers with interesting mechanics and a thoughtful narrative you will enjoy this game.

The gameplay is fun, the writing is good, the acting not so much. The graphics are also okay. The game is really enjoyable at face value, but it’s the story that really makes it stand out. It's an emotional journey of self-discovery but I don't want to spoil anything here. In terms of gameplay, the entire game is a sidescrolling puzzle platformer. I will admit, not my favorite type of game but it’s really well done and wanting to find out the next bit of the story kept me going to the very end. You mostly go from one area to the next, solving light puzzles, avoiding enemies, and scaling platforms. You’re on a journey to find your friend Emily and find yourself along the way. Surprisingly it doesn’t get too repetitive, largely thanks to an interesting game mechanic. It doesn’t take long for the gruesome nature of the game, and the main way to solve most of the puzzles, to kick in. Many of the puzzles in the game are solved by dismembering yourself or setting yourself on fire, and then later regenerating. Yep, you heard that right. Whether it’s removing your arm on a spike trap to then throw your arm at something or burning through an obstacle by setting it on fire with your own body. It’s totally gruesome but it’s just ridiculous enough that it’s definitely more fun and goofy than disturbing in my opinion. To give you an idea of how ridiculous and strange it is, there’s a point where you can knock over bowling pins by rolling your own severed head into them.

The Missing is a profound gaming experience. It's narrative is unconventional, polarizing and obtuse initially but as you make your way through the twisted weavings of J.J.'s experiences, a challenging and satisfying plot twist is revealed and most importantly, doesn't feel ham fisted. The gameplay is very unique but will be off putting to some but if you're looking for a narrative driven puzzle platformer, you'll be hard pressed to find a better one.

I bought the physical version after already purchasing the game for PC. Engaging, emotional story. Interesting and varied puzzles. It plays beautifully and I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the creator, Swery.

game is beautiful. Wonderful story and great visuals. Give this one a look before they sell out as its a Limited Run Games release, so once they're gone. They're gone.

WARNING This game isnt for everybody. It deals with depression and self harm. So be warned. The more you play the more interesting the story gets. Starts slow but you will get into it. Issue is the gameplay. It's a puzzle game but it is slow. Movement and jumps are a slow like there's a lag. It gets frustrating when you try to do something and you screw up. Then you have to redo which takes a while. It's also a short story, can beat it on a weekend or less. Overall, I wouldn't recommend to everybody. If you want to give it a try, I recommend PC. Will be the cheapest option

So weird, morbid, disjointed, and atmospheric. I love it. A cute couple is separated abruptly, and the player must traverse and solve puzzles, most of which involves the suffering of the protagonist. Another huge kudos to Best Buy for having Limited Run games so that you're not stuck paying ridiculous amounts from the folks online who buy them all up and sell them for double.

The story is the best part. The environments were alright. The rest of this game falls short. The walking and jumping have weird delays. In some character forms your character will fall after 3 steps and slowly get back up. This would be fine if it wasn’t needed for key gameplay elements. Every time you have to change your characters form for puzzles you have to wait through an animation that gets old fast.

If you've played a Swery game before - especially Deadly Premonition or D4 - you have an idea of you're getting into with The Missing. If you aren't familiar with Swery - then imagine a puzzle platformer not too dissimilar to Limbo, but created by someone who was really into Twin Peaks. The Missing is exactly that and more, with a unique central mechanic and truly emotional story.

This game is inventive and wonderful. It has a nice complexity that earns it’s reputation. Limited Run has chosen a great game to give a physical edition to. I won’t spoil the game ending here, you’ll have to play it!

This game is mature. A puzzle/platformer/horror game that is heart wrenching. Not recommended for kids. This game will stick with you emotionally for awhile.

SWERY told a beautiful and important story in this game that made me feel for the characters. I'm so glad I got to pick up this physical copy.

This is a very unique puzzle platforming game with a lot of charm. If you can overlook the voice acting, you may enjoy this game.
