The National - Rome - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

NATIONAL / LAUGH TRACK / The surprise companion to The National's April First Two Pages of Frankenstein, Laugh Track is the band's most freewheeling, all-hands-on-deck album in years. If Frankenstein represented a rebuilding of trust between group members after 20+ years together, the vibrant, exploratory Laugh Track is both the product of that faith and a new statement of intent. Reveling in the license to radically upend it's creative process, The National honed most of this material in live performances on tour, and captured those invigorated versions in impromptu sessions at producer Tucker Martine's Portland studio. Two nights later in Vancouver, the nearly eight-minute album closer InchSmoke DetectorInch was recorded during soundcheck, completing a body of work bristling with spontaneity and vintage rock energy that makes a perfect complement to the songs found on it's more introspective predecessor.

Reissue. Digitally remastered and expanded deluxe two CD edition. Includes bonus non-album cuts, rare tracks, and live recordings. Squeeze's third album and undeniable breakthrough, Argybargy has since been acknowledged as a classic of new wave and features multiple of the band's most famous songs. The opener summarizes a lot of the great things about this record. InchPulling MusselsInch is a jaw dropping slice of British kitchen sink drama with some genius songwriting. The album doesn't stay in one place; it's fidgety and crackling with colors, exploding into life as one of the haunting impressions of Argybargy is it's vivid sparkle. The record includes a lot of remarkably upbeat tunes, although they're diminished appropriately by the Squeezers' pessimistic sense of humor. But it was clear that Squeeze were at the top of the pack among new wave popstars, and that their scornful yet lively voice was unique among any pop group before or since.

2017 , the seventh album from the alt-rock band. The album's first single, 'The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness', blends elements of The National's signature indie rock anthems with a shot of disco funk. A shuffling drum beat and a grimy guitar loop mix with a slow-burning blend of piano, synths and horns that rise at the end with Matt Berninger's rousing plea, InchI can't explain it/ Any other, any other way.Inch The band recorded the album primarily at guitarist Aaron Dessner's studio, Long Pond, in Hudson Valley, New York, while additional sessions took place in Berlin, Paris and Los Angeles. Dessner produced the record with his brother, guitarist Bryce Dessner, and Berninger.
