The North Star - DVD

Based on a true story of courage and the will to be free. For black slaves Big Ben (Jeremiah Trotter) and Moses (Thomas C. Bartley, Jr.), the only thing worse than the daily cruelty of life on a Virginia plantation is the fear of being hunted down and tortured as runaways. But when Ben learns he is about to be sold to a new owner, he and Moses make the desperate choice to run. Evading brutal slave hunters and with only the light of the North Star as their guide, the pair make the grueling journey across hostile land to the free state of Pennsylvania. And even when a community of kind-hearted abolitionists welcomes them, Ben and Moses realize that their perilous struggle for freedom continues. Featuring an all-star cast including Keith David (Enlisted), Lynn Whitfield (How to Get Away with Murder), John Diehl (Jurassic Park III) and Clifton Powell (Army Wives).

The lives of the people of a Ukrainian farming collective are shattered by the invasion of the Germans during WWII. The occupying forces take food, property and people for the war. What to do about it is a critical and fateful decision.

The North Star brings viewers to an idyllic Ukrainian village in 1941 just before a Nazi invasion takes over the village. A young cohort of teens, newly graduated, are on their way to Kiev for a holiday when the attack takes place. They, and the other villagers, organize an uprising against their occupiers. Produced as a propaganda piece to rally American support, the film has a star-studded cast. This is a newly restored HD print.
