About this product
The Odyssey Cult Volume 3 ignites visceral fires of fuzz, pumped-up motorik, shimmering noise and hazy vocals, just in time to send up the last intoxicating smoke of summer. As for those of us still piecing our skulls back together after the ecstatic '90s-pummel of Ethan Miller's previous project (the zonked supergroup of Orcutt Shelley Miller), we forgive ourselves for not anticipating this, a meltdown-psych re-fusion of Ethan and Ben Flashman, two of the principals in Comets On Fire, the premier purveyors of early-aughts American guitar mayhem. Featuring Ethan Miller (Howlin Rain, Heron Oblivion) on guitar, loops, vocals, Ben Flashman (Comets On Fire) on bass, Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) on drums, Anthony Taibi (Carlton Melton/White Manna) on keys, Zoh Amba on sax and Brigid Dawson (OSEES), Paula Frazer (Tarnation), Inna Showalter (Magic Fig) on vocals.InchMiller and company layer psychedelic murk of the highest order into a neon rock monolith, it's components spanning coasts and generations of musicians. Depending what angle you look at it, Volume 3 glitters with facets reflecting all corners of sonic psychedelia, fusing the best of all post-hippy/punk eras, complete with earworms that sound equally great by the pool, on headphones, or blasting in the sled cruising down the 5, the 10, or whatever freeway of your dreams. Whether or not you've heard Orcutt Shelley Miller, Comets On Fire, Tarnation, or the OSEES, this LP stands out like a life buoy (or, occasionally, a shark fin) in a sea of wax.Inch -Tom Carter

Canada's Crystle Castles return with their latest album III. On III, the duo has conjured up a collection of songs that are as raw as they are rounded. As III unfolds, each track will take you to greater heights and equal lows, as you enter the sometimes plagued and often polarized world that is Crystal Castles.

Enneads is a New York-based trio featuringpianist Phyllis Chen, drummer Hamir Atwal, andZach Layton on the rare 17-string electric bass.Named after the writings of the neoplatonicphilosopher Plotinus, the ensemble approachesimprovisation through the ancient idea, firstarticulated by Pythagoras, that harmony is'number made audible.' The trio uses naturalstring harmonics as the foundation of it's conceptof improvisation. Harmonic and inharmonicovertones, sympathetic vibrations, rhythmicproportions, and resonant room acoustics are allparameters of an emerging musical form exploredthrough Chen, Atwal, and Layton's intuitiveapproach to spontaneous composition.Layton's unique instrument, the 17-string electric bass, is played in a variety of tunings andfunctions almost like an amplified Greek Lyre (ormaybe a Baroque electric Theorbo), runningthrough heavy fuzz, distortion, and ringmodulation, while Chen explores the interior of anamplified grand piano, producing richconstellations of expanded sound clusters, andthe percussive attack of the hammers as theystrike the strings, running through a Rat distortioncircuit. Atwal's drumming grounds it all throughfluid cycles of hypnotic pulsation and propulsivemotion that contributes to a hypnotic andsensitive and tactile sense of temporal structure.Recorded between 2024 and 2026 at Layton'sstudio in New York's Hudson Valley, the materialon the Enneads' debut self-titled record is adistillation of the trio's approach towardsimprovisation. Throughout the album, harmonicsdrift into slowly beating patterns, while dreamyreverberant atmospheres evolve into denselayers of distorted harmonics, recalling thegravitational pull of doom metal within the contextof experimental music and contemporary jazz. The first and last tracks on the album wereslowed down after recording, exploring practicespioneered by Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, (andDJ S
