Released on January 1, 1980, and recorded at Le Studio in Quebec it was their first U.S. album to go Top Five, peaking at #4 on the Billboard charts. The album was newly remastered at legendary Abbey Road Studios using the Direct to Metal Mastering (DMM) audiophile copper plating process, all from original analog tapes. A Farewell to Kings was the fifth studio album by the band. It was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, and mixed at Advision Studios in London. A Farewell to Kings would become Rush's first US gold-selling album, receiving the certification within two months of it's , and was eventually certified platinum. Geddy Lee originally wrote his bass lines on his acoustic bass.
