About This Item

The Screaming Skull is an American horror film starring John Hudson, Peggy Webber and Russ Conway. The opening scene is of a coffin. The narrator explains that the film's climax is so terrifying that it may kill the viewer, while assuring the audience that should they die of fright they will receive a free burial service. Inside the coffin is a card which reads, 'Reserved for You'. Newlyweds Jenni (Peggy Webber) and Eric (John Hudson) arrive at Eric's country home. Jenni is Eric's second wife, his first wife Marion died when she accidentally drowned in the estate's pond. It is revealed that Jenni spent time in an asylum following the death of both of her parents. Jenni is disturbed by Mickey (Alex Nicol), the mentally disturbed estate's gardener who believes that Marion's ghost wanders the estate. Jenni begins to hear unexplained screaming noises and see skulls around the house, and believes that Marion is haunting her. Eric tells Jenni that Mickey was a childhood friend of Marion, and therefore dislikes Jenni. Jenni feels she is losing her mind. Eric removes Marion's self-portrait from the home and burns it outside, uncovering a skull from the ashes. Jenni panics at the sight of the skull, but Eric denies that the skull is there. Jenni faints as Eric hides the skull, revealing that he has been gaslighting her all along. Jenni believes she has finally lost her mind. Is Marion's ghost haunting her? Why is Eric gaslighting her, and for what purpose? Twists and turns yet to come bring us to the finale of this epic horror. (68 minutes - 1958 - Black & White - 4 3).
