The Soul Stirrers - Never Turn Back The Singles Collection 1940-49 / The Soul Stirrers were one of the most noted gospel groups of the post-war decades, although they were formed as long ago as the 1930s, becoming one of the innovative groups during the 1940s who moved from the traditional InchflatfootedInch highly arranged quartet style towards the freer Inchhard gospelInch style of the new era. They are perhaps most famous for the period during the 1950s when the future soul legend Sam Cooke was with the group and got a hugely significant grounding the business, but among cognoscenti they are equally renowned for this period, when their lead singer was Rebert InchR.H.Inch Harris, who introduced the Inchswing leadInch style as two singers exchanged lead vocals to build emotional intensity. This 48-track 2-CD collection comprises releases on the Bronze, Down Beat, Harlem and 20th Century labels during this era followed by most of their substantial body of recordings made for the Aladdin tag from 1947 to 1949 before they joined the Specialty tag, and were joined by Sam Cooke. They were one of the most influential gospel groups of the day and this collection offers, we hope, a substantial, inspiring and uplifting showcase for their bold and distinctive approach to gospel music during what was a golden era for the genre.
![Sam Fletcher - The Look Of Love / You'd Better Come Home - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/ca0436d9-1393-46e5-b733-d3b387002635.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
With a voice that shone with class and sophistication, vocalist Sam Fletcher was known as InchThe Man With The Golden VoiceInch to his many fans - the biggest of which included Nat King Cole, Aretha Franklin and Nancy Wilson, to name a few. Fletcher rose to fame after a series of 1960's television appearances and now legendary nightclub engagements that ignited L.A.'s live jazz scene. His classic 1967 album, InchThe Look Of Love - The Sound Of Soul,Inch a collection of standards and pop tunes that showcased his impeccable phrasing and rich tone, should have propelled Fletcher to international stardom, but a highly publicized heroin bust in the late 1960's burst the bubble of his squeaky clean image and severely hampered his impending mainstream success. Although he eventually cleaned up his act, he unfortunately lost the momentum that surely would have propelled him to international success. His full length LPs and 45 RPM singles are now highly valued collector's items and rumors abound of a film project based on his life. Presented here is a rare single, originally released in 1967, which pairs the Burt Bacharach classic InchThe Look Of LoveInch with Petula Clark's 1965 pop hit InchYou'd Better Come Home.Inch Both tracks have been newly remastered from the original 7Inch vinyl mixes.
