About this product
In 1991 Thin White Rope set about to record their critically acclaimed album The Ruby Sea, which would subsequently be released on Frontier Records. Hailing from Davis, California, the band were able to hone their unique blend, of punk, country and rock into a deeply satisfying record that at times has a ferocious intensity, punctuated by a stark and lonely widescreen sentimentality. The album feels like the equivalent of driving all day, looking for accommodations in a tiny two-horse town and then hitting the local roadhouse for a cold beer. With a Miller in hand, you and the three other patrons witness a band play a show so devastating that you feel as if you've stumbled upon America's best kept secret. I've spent the last quarter century evangelizing to friends about how they need to own a copy of The Ruby Sea. I'm gearing up for the next 25.Jonathan Levitt, BLURT

Mean Mistreater - Razor Wire / Formed in 2023, MEAN MISTREATER are a heavy metal band from Austin, Texas. Armed with heart-racing riffs and powerful vocals, they meld classic heavy metal with hard rock, inspired by bands like Chastain, Warlock, and W.A.S.P. Embodying that InchAmerican MetalInch that Lizzy Borden sagely sang about so long ago, MEAN MISTREATER fly the flag prouder than ever now with Razor Wire!
Thin White Rope's second album, Moonhead, is an edge-of-chaos masterpiece, an album that sounds like NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE tackling JOY DIVISION's Unknown Pleasures. All of the 14 songs, even a pounding redo of JIMMY REED's blues classic InchAin't That Lovin' You Baby,Inch are so wound up and tense that the band sounds like it could explode at any point; the fact that it doesn't, not even on extended guitar workouts like InchCrawl Piss FreezeInch and the epic closer InchTake It Home,Inch gives the album an almost unbearable tension and sense of foreboding. The songs all basically start at the same point - dual-guitar leads over Jozef Becker's Krautrock-like steady pulses and Stephen Tesluk's throbbing, minimal basslines - but Guy Kyser's lyrics and tortured wails to give rise to deadpan humor, providing the album with so much variation that it never becomes deadening. An intense, satisfying LP, Moonhead is Thin White Rope's most substantial and powerful effort. Frontier Records is digitally remastering Thin White Rope's first five records and reissuing them on vinyl for the first time in decades.
Vinyl LP pressing. Hailing from the northern California town of Davis, Thin White Rope was unfathomably pegged as a proponent of the paisley underground movement. The songs the group covered over the course of their ten-year career is far more revealing Suicide, The Stooges, Lee Hazlewood, Marty Robbins, Can, and Roky Erickson have all been rendered by the band in the studio and on-stage. That list goes a long way in explaining the mixture of raw, angular riffs, southern twang, and psychedelia. Frontier Records has digitally remastered Thin White Rope's first five records for LP and CD, and is reissuing them on vinyl for the first time in decades.
