About this product
An official selection at Cannes Directors' Fortnight, Toronto International Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival, This Magnificent Cake! (Ce Magnifique Gâteau!) is an unforgettable work of stop-motion animation exploring the bitter milieu of Belgium-occupied Congo. In the late 19th century, keen to compete with other European imperial powers on the continent, King Leopold II of Belgium proclaimed, InchI do not want to miss a good chance of getting us a slice of this magnificent African cake.Inch The subsequent occupation of the Congo would come to attract a contingent of servants, merchants and miscellaneous bourgeois driven by everything from insatiable greed to existential fear. From the intimate stories of these characters-many of whom pass through a luxury hotel in the middle of the jungle-emerges a greater narrative concerning the imperialist mentality. In a film by turns surreal, darkly comic and brutal, directors Marc James Roels and Emma de Swaef ultimately turn their critical gaze on the colonists themselves in a work of stunning, mysterious beauty.

From high school rebel in The Breakfast Club to prep school impersonator, Judd Nelson's (Blue City) irreverent brand of humor is prominently on display in Making The Grade. Rich, preppy Palmer Woodrow (Dana Olsen, The Burbs) would much rather be skiing in Europe than attending Hoover Academy prep school, which provides Palmer with his last shot at graduating. As it turns out Palmer is more motivated than anyone imagines. Enter Eddie Keaton (Nelson), a low-rent con artist in need of cash and on the run from a loanshark (Andrew Dice Clay, Blue Jasmine). With $10,000 and a Porsche courtesy of Palmer, Eddie assumes his identity. Hoover Academy will never be the same. Making The Grade, directed by Dorian Walker (Teen Witch) from a screenplay by Gene Quintano based on a story by Quintano and Charles Gale, co-stars Jonna Lee (Chained Heat), Gordon Jump (House Calls) and Ronald Lacey (Raiders of the Lost Ark).

Following JFK's assassination, a middle-class Texas couple figured that the end was nigh-and proceeded to lock themselves and their three kids in their fallout shelter. Thirty years later, Tina (O-Lan Jones), Scotty (Jim Turner), and Pam (Andrea Stein) have grown-physically, at any rate-and the bizarre rituals that make up their everyday existence are comically chronicled in this dark, barely released farce based on a play written by the principals; final directing credit for Paul Bartel. 81 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

Lie, cheat, steal... it's all part of the holiday spirit for ex-con Dennis (Paul Giamatti) and fast talker Rene (Paul Rudd) when they try to make a quick buck selling Christmas trees in New York. For Dennis it's a chance to go straight, and for his best friend and former partner-in-crime, Rene, it's a chance to make some easy cash so he can marry Dennis's ex-wife. But for two not-very-bright guys now stuck together on the cold streets of Brooklyn, this holiday season may bring some of the most unexpected miracles of all. Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky) and Amy Landecker (A Serious Man) co-star in this film from executive producer Paul Giamatti and the award-winning director of Junebug Phil Morrison.
