Thomas Marriott - Urban Folklore - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

From Freddie Hubbard's burner InchTake It to the Ozone,Inch to the moody and spare reading of Elvis Costello's InchAlmost Blue,Inch Flexicon's unified yet eclectic mix further solidifies Marriott's standing as one of the finer voices in jazz today both as a trumpeter and producer. Along with his band of saxophonist Mark Taylor, pianist Bill Anschell, bassist Jeff Johnson, drummer Matt Jorgensen and special guest Joe Locke on vibes, Marriott visits jazz classics such as InchSpring Is HereInch and InchDetour AheadInch, pop tunes from Costello and John Barry, and a trio of thoughtful originals.Inch... serious chops and a luxuriant trumpet sound... Inch JazzTimes.

Entering a rich new phase of his dynamic career, trumpeter Thomas Marriott opens a dialogue with saxophonist Hans Teuber and the rhythm section of Gary Versace, Jeff Johnson and John Bishop, on a set of wide open original compositions filled with moody lyricism and a powerful group aesthetic. Unfolding harmonic and melodic intrique create a recording ripe for repeated listens with new revelations awaiting discovery. Inch... serious chops and a luxuriant trumpet sound... Inch Jazz TimesInch... I assumed he was an older journeyman, someone who had pared his style over the decades to the sweetest, fattest tones.Inch David Dupont, Cadence.

From the first track, it is apparent that Marriott belongs to a select group of elite trumpet players capable of the speed & precision, tonal purity, and advanced logic displayed on an up tempo take of InchYou Don't Know What Love Is.Inch Along with the wildly creative organist Gary Versace, drummer Matt Jorgensen, and saxophonist Mark Taylor, he explores that classic along with a haunting InchLow Key LightlyInch by Duke Ellington and Miles Davis' InchThe Brown Hornet,Inch to complement several originals. Marriott again assembles another finely crafted recording, full of swing, heart, and surprises.InchOne of the best trumpet players in the world.Inch - Thomas Conrad.
