For quite some time the composer and music educator Ludwig Thuille (1861-1907) seemed to stand in the shadow of his friend Richard Strauss, three years his junior. Nevertheless, in the end their friendship and the exchange between them contributed to artistic development on both sides. Thuille's chamber music, including mature contributions representing the high point of his composing, occupies a very great place in his overall oeuvre.
