Thunder Road - DVD

Robert Mitchum (Out of the Past, The Night of the Hunter, The Longest Day, The Enemy Below) takes the wheel as Korean War veteran Lucas Doolin in the gripping noir-tinged crime drama, Thunder Road. Inspired by an original story written by Mitchum himself, Thunder Road follows Lucas as he returns from the war and is drawn into the family business distilling and running moonshine throughout the South. Along the way he'll face off with a by-the-book U.S. Treasury Agent (Gene Barry, The War of the Worlds, The 27th Day, TV's Burke's Law), a ruthless gangster (Jacques Aubuchon, The Silver Chalice) and his own conscious as he struggles with his younger brother's (played by Mitchum's son James Mitchum, Trackdown, Moonrunners, Hollywood Cop, In Harm's Way, Blackout) growing involvement in the dangerous trade. Arthur Ripley (The Chase, Voice in the Wind, Prisoner of Japan) directs and Mitchell Ryan (Grosse Pointe Blank, Liar Liar, Lethal Weapon), Keely Smith (Hey Boy! Hey Girl!), Trevor Bardette (The Monolith Monsters, The Deerslayer, The Westerner) and Sandra Knight (The Terror, Tower of London, Frankenstein's Daughter) round out the cast.

Trapped inside his car by a mudslide, smooth talking Jackson Alder suddenly finds himself in a situation he can't talk his way out of. With no hope of rescue, he must defy the odds; battling Mother Nature for his survival.

Locked up in Sing Sing and awaiting execution, violent criminal Thunderbolt Jim Lang (George Bancroft) seethes over the knowledge that his girl Ritzy (Fay Wray) is the object of affection of bank clerk Bob Moran (Richard Arlen). He frames the innocent Moran for robbery and murder, getting him put in a nearby cell. Can Thunderbolt rub out his new fellow inmate before his own number comes up? Early noir effort also stars Tully Marshall, Eugenie Besserer, James Spottswood; Josef von Sternberg directs from a script by Herman Mankiewicz. 85 min.
