Janacek / Acies Quartett - String Quartets - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The string quartets by Leos Janacek can without any doubt be counted among the highlights of chamber music works of the period between the two World Wars. His first quartet from 1923 titled InchKreutzer SonataInch refers to the eponymous novella by Leo Tolstoy, a story about adultery and murder of jealousy, quickened by the power of music, and an expression of Tolstoy's deeply Christian and anarchistic understanding of sociology. InchIntimate lettersInch, Janaceks second string quartet composed in 1928, documents his discontent with his own conjugal life, depicting his long-term platonic affection for the likewise married Kamila Stösslova, with whom he exchanged more than 700 love letters. The Carinthian ensemble Acies Quartet presents yet another album of furious brilliance paired with their unmatched emotional profundity.

Kelemen Altstaedt Lonquich - Duo for Violin & Violoncello - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

After the success of the recent recording of works by Veress and Bartók, which won both a Gramophone Award and a BBC Music Magazine Award in 2020, the Lockenhaus Festival series, curated by it's artistic director Nicolas Altstaedt, continues it's journey through central Europe with Antonín Dvorák and his famous 'Dumky' Trio, named after a genre of Slavonic folksong generally performed by blind wandering minstrels who accompanied themselves on the kobza or bandura (twelve-string lute). Dvorák, whose father played the zither, immersed himself in this music and creatively translated it's substance into his own music. The trio was premiered in 1891 and, in response to it's ecstatic reception, Dvorák decided to perform it during his grand farewell tour before leaving for the United States. Zoltán Kodály's Duo for violin and cello (1914), which completes the program, also bears witness to the influence of folk music.

Senses Fail - Let It Enfold You - VINYL LP

Senses Fail's album InchLet It Enfold YouInch is a raw and emotionally charged musical journey that leaves an indelible mark on the post-hardcore and emo genre. Released in 2004, this album is a sonic testament to the band's ability to channel pain, despair, and hope into a powerful and cathartic listening experience. - The title itself, borrowed from Charles Bukowski's poem, reflects the album's theme of embracing one's inner turmoil and allowing it to envelop and ultimately heal. The album's lyrics are deeply personal, exploring themes of heartbreak, self-discovery, and the tumultuous journey of growing up. Lead vocalist Buddy Nielsen's passionate and sometimes gut-wrenching delivery amplifies the emotional resonance of the words.
