About this product

Originally released as a hand-numbered CD on New Year's Eve of 2004, Last Light captures Tor Lundvall's hushed songcraft at it's most ghostly and grayscale, stripped bare like branches bracing for winter. Initially conceived of as Incha piano album with sparse electronicsInch (with the working title November), Lundvall's palette steadily expanded, incorporating synthesizer, samples, bass, metronomes, and his signature spectral vocals. A journal entry from the spring of 2002 proved formative to his evolving vision InchI remember watching the blueish-grey light shimmering outside and hearing distant sounds echoing far away, eventually sinking into silence and stillness.InchThe album's 12 tracks are steeped in this sense of autumnal transience, of bearing witness to what fades. The music moves in whispered swells, between dirge, drift, and devotional. Synths chime like slow-tolling bells; percussion shuffles and shivers, icy and isolated; bass traces a low- lidded plod - it's a mode both austere and seductive, lulling the listener into it's landscapes of deepening dusk. Lyrically, Lundvall's language skews observational and depressive (Inchthrough lace curtains / grey light falls / dark clouds gather / in my soulInch), with each song like a gauzy glimpse into a different tableau framing winter's descent rust-colored leaves, frozen ponds, cold crescent moons.Lundvall has long considered Last Light a Inchpersonal favoriteInch in his discography, and it's easy to hear why. In texture, finesse, and pacing, it vividly evokes the rare mood of fragile, frosty pastoral noir depicted in his iconic oil paintings. His is an art of the half-seen and half-remembered, of fleeting figures, shapes and shadows, and gathering darkness. Of all that disappears, and the ghosts that never leave InchSo I wait / as the years / slowly drain the magic and the light / and the girl / I never lov

Final Light - Final Light - VINYL LP

Final Light, a one-time only project featuring Perturbator and Cult of Luna's Johannes Persson, deliver their self-titled album on Metal Blade. The project is the result of both a recently discovered kinship and the opportunity for Perturbator, at the request of Roadburn's Walter Hoeijmakers, to do a commissioned piece with a musician of his choice for the festival's 2020 iteration, which of course did not happen. James Kent recalls, InchI immediately thought of Cult of Luna. Even though my music is mostly electronic and synth-based, we both have a knack for creating atmospheres, so I thought it would be a very interesting match.Inch As soon as the pair began work on their boundary-decimating songs, they knew that they had to be immortalized as an album. InchIt was immediate,Inch adds Kent. InchWe had almost an hour of interesting music, so it would've been a shame to simply perform it and not do anything with it afterwards. It's a project that I really want to share; it's not only the fruit of a collaboration between me and one of my favourite musicians, but also very unique and once-in-a-lifetime.Inch
