Tragicomedia - Madrigali Concertati - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

It is not written words, but narrative sound worlds that allow the listener to dive into the composer's fantastic world. Like no other, Leoš Janácek understood how to bring a fairy tale (Pohádka) to life in a sound-painting manner. Robert Schumann's musical fairy tale pictures provide deep insights into his soul life. Martinu's highly dramatic first cello sonata and the dreamlike InchWaldesruhInch by Anton Dvorák complete the program. Cellist Mathias Johansen and pianist Andreas Hering take you on a fairy-tale journey of sound. Mathias Johansen has been a professor at the State Conservatory of Vorarlberg in Feldkirch since 2016. He has performed as a soloist with the Lithuanian National Orchestra, as well as the Berliner Philharmonic. He is in demand as a chamber musician and regularly performs at various festivals. He is a member of the Berolina Ensemble and the Archos Quartet.

The early five-part madrigals published by Luca Marenzio in 1580 in his InchFirst Book of MadrigalsInch revive the Roman dolce vita of the 1580s and 1590s. The music and texts of this InchPrimo Libro di Madrigali a cinque vociInch evoke that Golden Age of art and science in which cardinals and princes were splendor-loving patrons. At the time of it's , Marenzio's InchPrimo LibroInch was a huge success and his recording forms another madrigal jewel in the collection of the Compagnia del Madrigale, which once again shows how sonorous and colorful it knows how to interpret this Italian repertoire. In addition to the madrigals from the InchPrimo LibroInch, this recording also features the rarely performed InchSestina Mentre ti fui sì gratoInch, a collaborative work by a collective of Renaissance composers known as the InchMusici di RomaInch. It consisted of the six composers Nanino, Moscaglia, de Macque, Soriano, Zoilo and Marenzio himself, each of whom set a stanza of this madrigal to music, thus offering the listener exciting opportunities for comparison.

Artisan is an English close harmony trio featuring the voices of Jacey Belford, Hilary Spencer & Brian Bedord. This richly woven collection of songs (mostly composed by Brian) is at once sesitive, witty, moving & always exceptionally performed with an uncommon combined talent for harmony.
