About this product

On January 23, 2021, the music world celebrated the hundredth anniversary of the death of Wladyslaw Zelenski, the founder and long-time director of the Music Conservatory in Kraków, and one of the most outstanding representatives of the Romantic era in Poland. This album contains studio recordings of two great chamber works, showing the excellent compositional technique of the Polish composer. Recordings of both works make us aware of the enormous potential of Zelenski as a composer. What's more, each of the pieces, despite the apparent simplicity and formal transparency, is marked by a large dose of individualism and expressive and social distinctiveness. All this makes the above-mentioned works by Zelenski one of the greatest showpieces in the history of chamber music in the world. Album Tracks 1. Piano Trio in E Major, Op. 22 (Before 1870) 2. Piano Quartet in C minor, Op. 61 (1909)

Currently, Feliks Nowowiejski is recognisable mainly as the author of music to Maria Konopnicka's Oath, alternatively as composer of organ and oratorio music. His symphonic output, overshadowed by the works of Karol Szymanowski, who was composing at the same time, is rarely performed and has not been presented to the wider audience yet. The present album, thanks to the efforts of the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Lukasz Borowicz, fills this gap in the image of the Polish music of the interwar period. We display on it the symphonies Nos. 2 and 3 by Nowowiejski (the Symphony No. 1 is lost). The first of the pieces, with extended percussion parts, is a genuine apology of rhythm, while the Symphony No. 3, dedicated to Iris, the goddess of rainbow, enchants us with ingenious instrumental solutions - colors of the orchestra. Album Tracks 1. I. Andante Mesto 2. II. Allegro Moderato E Molto Ritmico 3. III. Grave - Allegro Gaio 4. IV. Moderato Assai E Molto Ritmico 5. V. Adagio Misterioso E Molto Tranquillo 6. VI. Allegro Vivace 7. VII. Grave Dramatico - Presto 8. I. Allegro Molto Vivo Ed Energico 9. II. Andante Tranquillo Con Espressione 10. III. Scherzando (Tempo Di Marcia) 11. IV. Lento Tranquillamente
