Japanese Jazz legend Tsuyoshi Yamamoto's new album, A Shade Of Blue, undoubtedly reflects his love of the piano trio, a group configuration that in jazz history began in the 1940s with Nat King Cole and then was developed in the 50s by innovators like Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, and Bill Evans. Yamamoto's highly experienced trio - which has a combined age of 215 years - features bassist Hiroshi Kagawa (?? ??) and drummer Toshio Osumi (?? ??). A Shade Of Blue reveals the three musicians' incredible musical chemistry; listening to the ten tracks they've recorded together, it's as if they breathe, think, and feel as one person; such is the musical empathy between them. A Shade Of Blue will be released by evosound on MQACD, SACD- Hybrid Multi-Channel, 180g Double Vinyl LP (audiophile pressing).

The Susceptible Now is the new from drummer and 2024 Pulitzer Prize-winner Tyshawn Sorey that covers a surprising set of some of his favorite music. Featuring his trio of Aaron Diehl on piano and Harish Raghavan on bass, the album follows on the heels of his masterful Continuing, which was voted #4 of 2023 by the Francis Davis Poll of over 150 jazz critics, and was hailed by The Guardian as Inch5-Stars simmering with reinventions of old magic... One of the year's special sets.Inch The new continues to expand on Sorey's ongoing partnership with Diehl, now their fourth album together. The trio presents the McCoy Tyner classic InchPeresinaInch from his album Expansions; InchA Chair in the SkyInch from the Joni Mitchell album Mingus; InchBealtineInch from Brad Mehldau; and InchYour Good Lies,Inch a contemporary soul song from the group Vividry. Predictably, Sorey completely deconstructs these compositions, extracting and shuffling sections of the original recordings while arranging them into elaborate forms that morph constantly and unpredictably. The program is played without breaks, magnifying it's focused intensity while creating a prodigious sense of scale more akin to a tone poem than a piano trio performance. It's yet another manifestation of Sorey's profound musical wizardry.
