TUI is an internationally touring old-time duo made up of Jake Blount and Libby Weitnauer. Blount hails from the District of Columbia; Weitnauer, from Maryville, TN. Both spent most of their lives on other genres of music, before moving away from home taught them a deeper appreciation for their roots. Blount is now an award-winning scholar and performer of Black string band music, specializing in the music of his family and forebears. Weitnauer is a versatile fiddler and singer known for the rhythmic complexity and precision of her playing. TUI works with traditional songs and instrumental tunes gleaned from archival recordings, at times paying strict tribute to bygone musicians and at others reinterpreting the music through a contemporary lens. The album pinpoints the intersections between the duo's musical and cultural experiences, incorporating songs from Black and white musicians, from each musician's hometown, and from other locales ranging from Virginia to Texas. They're all presented as stripped-down duets for fiddle, banjo and voice, no less gritty and soulful for their intimacy. Pretty Little Mister is a testament to the exquisiteness of tradition, and to the power of youth.

Every year, the Orléans International Piano Competition recognizes a young male or female pianist and, through their performance, also acknowledges the best there is in composition. Mikhaïl Bouzine is a person who has great passion for the contemporary repertoire he envisions, demonstrating exceptional, keen musicianship. In collaboration with B Records, he presents a stunning, unique program on this album. Born in Moscow in January 1995, Mikhaïl Bouzine is a one-man orchestra. A creator of sounds. Composer of an often repetitive and bewitching music, he knows how to be facetious, surprising and confusing in his numerous works, as shown by the cycle he has been developing since 2012 on the letters of the Cyrillic alphabet. Facing the piano, he also becomes a dancer and a conductor. An incredible instrumentalist, he received one of the greatest educations possible, at the Moscow Conservatory with Andrei Shibko, whose master was one of the disciples of Heinrich Neuhaus, founder of the great Russian school. The piano was not enough for him, and Bouzine therefore also received harpsichord lessons from Tatiana Zenaïshvili, and composition lessons from Vladimir Tarnopolsky, a pupil of Edison Denisov. His pianistic performances reveal an obvious charisma, imbuing his performances with phenomenal energy and precision, always with respect to the score.

The Esterházy princes' love of hunting prompted their 'house composer' Joseph Haydn to make extensive use of the horn. At the time, this was still the hand horn (Waldhorn), limited to 'natural' harmonics, since it did not yet have valves. Between 1761 and 1790 there were a total eighteen horn players in princely service, but no trumpeters! So, in his Symphony no.48 of 1769, for example, Haydn used the horns as 'replacement trumpets', instructing them to play an octave higher than usual. The horns strike a flamboyant note in Haydn's symphonies, which is probably why an anonymous copyist of no.59 dubbed it the 'Fire' Symphony. The Symphony no.31 'Horn Signal' (1765) gives it's name to this thirteenth volume in the Haydn2032 Edition. The four horns ring out majestically and the musicians of Il Giardino Armonico perform this music in their characteristically impetuous style, under the fiery direction of Giovanni Antonini.
