Johnny Cash - Now Here's Johnny - VINYL LP

Vinyl LP pressing. From the minute he walked into Sun Studios, Johnny Cash began a legendary career that would see him become one of the biggest and most influential musicians of our time. Though only on Sun for three years from 1955-1958, Johnny made some of his most legendary recordings there. When he moved on to Columbia Records, Johnny left behind a large cache of material which Sun happily compiled and released on LPs throughout the 60's, mixing Cash's singles-sides with previously unissued recordings. The resulting platters were a goldmine for fans eager to hear more from country's newest superstar. From the original Sun masters, featuring many raw, in-the-studio sides (sans overdubs) - the Man in Black has never sounded better! For what would be his 10th album , Sun continued to mine it's deep reservoir of Cash recordings for Now Here's Johnny Cash. Inaugural single InchHey PorterInch makes it's first LP appearance and signals a recurring theme for Cash's songs, trains and the American railroad system. It also contains a cover of Don Gibson's InchOh Lonesome Me,Inch which hit #13 on the Country Singles Chart and #93 on the Pop Singles Chart. Though well into his Columbia career at this point, Sam Phillips and Sun continued to be a major part of Cash's success.

Bud Powell - 1960 Essen Grugahalle - VINYL LP

Racism and disdain for improvised music in the Inchmotherland of jazzInch drove more and more Americans to Europe in the 1950s and 1960s. Bud Powell, Kenny Clarke and Oskar Pettiford, who had already contributed to the development of bebop in the early 1940s, appear here on the occasion of the Jazztage in Essen in 1960, and the saxophonist Coleman Hawkins joined them in the second half of the concert.

Tyshawn Sorey - Verisimilitude - VINYL LP

Pi Recordings is celebrating their 20th anniversary with a series of limited-edition vinyl reissues of some of the highlights from their distinguished history. They kick things off with Verisimilitude from drummer/composer Tyshawn Sorey, whose continuing effort to shatter the jazz piano trio tradition by extending the form to encompass the influence of the likes of Feldman, Debussy and Xenakis. Since the of this album, Sorey has gone on to win a MacArthur Fellowship (the InchGenius GrantInch) and become one of the most in-demand composers in new music whom The New York Times profile in a piece titled InchThe Busiest Composer in the Bleakest Year.Inch Originally best known as an immensely-talented drummer, Sorey is also in the vanguard of artists working in that liminal space between spontaneous composition and notated music. The New Yorker calls Sorey Inchamong the most formidable denizens of [that] in-between zone,Inch Verisimilitude was named one of the best albums of 2017 by the New York Times, and Pitchfork said of the Inchthat all the variety here comes from the work of three players is a marvel. It's almost frightening to imagine what Sorey could conceive, with a full orchestra at his disposal.Inch It's a far-reaching and intensely beautiful work that daringly blurs the boundaries between composition and improvisation.
