Chopin Preludes; Impromptus by Composer Frdric Chopin (1810 1849) Artist Arrau, Claudio [Piano] When this reissue of Claudio Arrau's 1973 recording of Chopin's preludes was released by Philips, it was the third reissue of that particular recording released that year. PentaTone, the astoundingly clean Dutch tag, had released a disc coupling Arrau's 1973 recording of Chopin's preludes with his 1974 recording of Schumann's Papillons, and Philips, the great Dutch tag itself, had released an eight-disc set of all Arrau's postwar Chopin recording for them. Of course, Arrau's preludes are uniformly ineffably beautiful, perhaps a little slow sometimes, but with such effortless technique, such tonal opulence, and such poetic soulfulness that it only serves to grant the listener more time to contemplate the heights and depths. The sound from all three issues presents different aspects of recorded perfection the PentaTone may be somewhat clearer, but all three incarnate in their zillions of zeros and ones in breathtakingly real representations of a real piano in a real room in real time. 2020 . Every album has it's own history, and this recording by Vicious Rumors has a pretty unusual one at that originally, the band had planned only twenty concerts to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1988 classic Digital Dictator. InchThe reactions were so enthusiastic that the twenty shows turned into an amazing 108 gigs in the end,Inch remembers band mastermind Geoff Thorpe, still a little awed. InchWe really hadn't expected that. Of course this jumbled the original time schedule for our current album a little.Inch Thorpe is referring to the latest Vicious Rumors masterpiece, Celebration Decay. The date may have suffered a slight delay due to the extended anniversary tour, but at the end of the day few other Vicious Rumors releases have benefit so much from a prior tour. Because, as Thorpe points out InchOn the one hand the new Vicious Rumors studio line-up had an opportunity to grow into a really tight unit during that long tour, which is one of the reasons why Celebration Decay sounds as dynamic and vibrant as any other of our best recordings in our long career. On the other hand the Digital Dictator shows ensured that we came into contact with our early influences again and again. Both factors together have resulted in an album that sounds like typical Vicious Rumors and oozes lots of energy and momentum. I must admit, I couldn't be prouder.Inch Album Tracks 1. Collision Course Disaster 11. Masquerade of Good Intentions
