Ten Years After - Best Of The Early Years - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

From Nottingham in the English North Midlands, Blues/ hard rock quartet Ten Years After became one of the most successful of British musical exports of the late 1960s and 70s. One of the star bands of the 1969 Woodstock Festival, and the subsequent film/ soundtrack of same, TYA became a touring favourite in the USA, enjoying a diehard fanbase and shifting considerable quantities of albums. Based on the lightning-fingered guitar skills of Alvin Lee, alongside Ric Lee (drums), Leo Lyons (bass, vocals) and Chick Churchill (keyboards, vocals), the core quartet remained remarkably solid throughout their existence, until the departure of Alvin Lee in 2003. The tracks on this collection are taken from the band's first few albums with some additional live recordings, as well as both sides of the band's debut single, 'Portable People'/ 'The Sounds'. Ten Years After continue to tour, especially in Europe, and record sporadically, with only drummer Ric Lee from the original line-up. Alvin Lee died in 2013 from complications following routine heart surgery. This set captures TYA at an exciting, emergent stage of their career, a launch pad for a band who would go on to thrill huge audiences worldwide and who carved their own distinctive niche in rock and roll history.

Ten Years After - Woodstock 1969 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Ten Years After's Woodstock performance was, up until that time, their biggest live triumph. Appearing at the festival in August 1969, in front of a 500,000 strong audience, the festival was a landmark moment in musical history, featuring Jimi Hendrix, Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Who, Joe Cocker, Jefferson Airplane, Sly & The Family Stone and many more. The band played an extraordinary set, including a blistering performance of the anthemic InchI'm Going HomeInch which became a highlight of the award-winning documentary movie InchWoodstock 3 Days Of Peace And MusicInch. This new marks the first standalone of the performance, newly restored and featuring fresh mixes from the original 2Inch multitrack tapes, with new liner notes by Chris Welch. 1CD, digisleeve with an eight-page booklet.

Ten Years After - Goin' Home - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Reissued for the first time on vinyl in over ten years, this 1975 compilation represents the first three years in the life of Ten Years After - from their beginning in small British clubs to the peak of their acclaim at the legendary Woodstock festival - and with it a distinguished fragment of rock history. Ten Years After came out of the British blues circuit of the late-60s; a fertile breeding ground for emergent young groups. That blues boom at it's height was instrumental in heralding the arrival of the guitar hero and the groups they led - Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend and of course Alvin Lee. The charismatic guitarist/singer headed a powerful team of talented musicians in Ten Years After that included Leo Lyons, Chick Churchill and Ric Lee. They conquered America, enjoyed success around the world and became icons of the Woodstock generation.
