About this product
Up Around The Sun is a new project from DIY/punk legend Tim Kerr (Big Boys, Poison 13) and Austin clawhammer banjoist Jerry Hagins. Born out of old-time music sessions in Texas, it's a collaboration that throws off general expectations and embraces the sounds of Ireland and the Texas Hill Country- so memorable that an American radio disc jockey dubbed it InchWindham HillbillyInch. But first, a bit about Tim. Critics have cited bands that Tim was a member of as having been a major factor in starting everything from punkfunk to grunge and garage; and all have played an important role in what is known, for better or worse, as the US indie scene today. He shared bills with the likes of Grace Jones, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Fugazi, Black Flag, Africa Bambaataa, and X to name a few.In 2007 Tim was asked to start a session at the then new Rio Rita Cocktail Bar in Austin. No longer focusing on electric guitar, he was now playing Irish tunes on a button accordion. Austin has a strong old-time music scene, so it was only a matter of months that the session got on the map. Jerry Hagins became a regular at these sessions and was well known in the folk scene in Austin for his clawhammer banjo playing. Up Around The Sun began officially in 2012 when Kerr asked Hagins to record some banjo tunes for him to study the clawhammer technique. Kerr laid guitar over the tracks for Jerry so he could have a recording of how Tim used to accompany him.Since those auspicious beginnings, Up Around the Sun has put out three recordings, with Water Valley the latest. The band prefers playing in nontraditional spaces such as house shows and art galleries, making an early mark with frequent touring in Japan.

Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket. On An Island is the third solo album by Pink Floyd member David Gilmour. It was released in the UK on March 6, 2006, Gilmour's 60th birthday. It was his first solo album in 22 years since About Face in 1984 and twelve years since Pink Floyd's 1994 album The Division Bell. The album features Robert Wyatt, Jools Holland, Georgie Fame, David Crosby, Graham Nash, late Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, early Pink Floyd member Bob Klose and Pink Floyd session and touring musician Guy Pratt. Chris Thomas and Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera assisted with production. Much of the album was recorded in Gilmour's private studio aboard his houseboat Astoria. Orchestrations on the album were arranged by noted Polish film composer Zbigniew Preisner and conducted by Robert Ziegler.

The musical companian to Tim Kerr's recent art book InchSelf Taught.Inch Up Around the Sun consists of Tim Kerr on guitar and harmonica, and Jerry Hagins on banjo with assorted friends and extended family. Take a clawhammer banjo playing old-time tunes backed with an open D tuned guitar playing a style that might usually be found backing Irish tunes and you get an instrumental soundtrack that was once described by one listener as Windham Hillbilly.Out of Tim Kerr's prolific musical career he is probably best best known for the punk band The Big Boys formed in 1978 with Chris Gates and Randy InchBiscuitInch Turner. Although the band only lasted 6 years they were applauded by many for being one of the most influential bands on the Texas Punk scene mixing funk, soul and rock into their frenetic live performances. The bands on Tim's lengthy roster include Poison 13, the funk of Bad Mutha Goose & the Brothers Grimm, The Monkeywrench, Jack O'Fire, Lord High Fixers... and more. One thing that many people mention about Tim is his love of community and how his DIY self-expression has influenced many others. His latest project 'Up Around the Sun' is an altogether different and more mellow offering that sits nicely alongside his other loves painting, surfing and skateboarding.1.
