Brand new 1/1250 scale diecast model of the USS Hornet CV-8 Aircraft Carrier (1940) by Legendary Battleships. The model features a detailed exterior, true-to-scale detail, and is made of diecast metal and plastic for durability and a heavy, realistic feel. It is an officially licensed product that comes in a plastic display showcase and the manufacturer’s original unopened packaging. The model does not have any openings and measures approximately 8 inches in length, 1 inch in width, and 1.75 inches in height. USS Hornet (CV-8), a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier, was constructed by Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., launched on 14 December 1940, and commissioned on 20 October 1941. During her service in the Pacific Theater, Hornet participated in the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, the Battle of Midway, and the Solomon Islands campaign, including the defense of Guadalcanal and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, where she was critically damaged and sunk on 26 October 1942 by Japanese aircraft bombs and torpedoes. Hornet earned the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four battle stars, and the World War II Victory Medal, becoming the last U.S. fleet carrier lost in action.
