Zimper Suklar Eggner Ovtcharov - Trio Clarinet Cello & Piano - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The composition competition of the Vienna Tonkünstlerverein in 1896 under honorary president Johannes Brahms intended to promote chamber music Inchwhich uses at least one wind instrumentInch and resulted in 18 submissions, twelve of which were selected for five concerts. The first and third placed works of this competition, namely the Clarinet Quartet in E flat major Op. 1 by Walter Rabl (world premiere recording) and the Clarinet Trio in D minor Op. 3 by Alexander Zemlinsky were now recorded for this album by Christoph Zimper, clarinet, Kristina Suklar, violin, Florian Eggner, cello and Peter Ovtcharov, piano. The proximity to the music of Johannes Brahms is not least influenced by his own chamber music works for clarinet, but can also be seen in numerous stylistic and aesthetic aspects with both Rabl and Zemlinsky.

Ustvolskaya / Sorkin / Andreeva - Complete Music Violin & Piano - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Unfairly named 'The Lady with the Hammer' for her uncompromising use of massive thunderous chords and ostinato rhythms, Ustvolskaya was a pupil of Shostakovich but forged her own unique way into many genres. Recently, artists have concentrated, as here, on bringing out the richness of the works and their innate lyricism. This album includes all of the composer's music for violin and piano in two major works - the Sonata and the Duet. Russian violinist Evgeny Sorkin was a child prodigy and performed for Isaac Stern at the age of 10 and was compared at 16 to David Oistrakh by no less than Yehudi Menuhin. He moved to Australia and balanced teaching at Sydney Conservatory with a busy recital schedule. Natalia Andreeva is a Russian pianist who is currently Lecturer in Piano at the University of Sydney, Australia. Her 2015 recording of the complete solo piano music of Galina Ustvolskaya was very well received; she is a pianist of consummate skill who can express the power and lyricism which exist side by side in these works.

Barrie - Barbara - VINYL LP

Barrie Lindsay is the type of artist who is driven by precise visions of how music should sound. However, the 32-year old, soft-spoken, obsessive producer can be cerebral to a fault, prone to intellectualizing her emotions and self-consciously camouflaging herself in her songs. On Barbara, Lindsay's first ever self-produced album, and second under the moniker Barrie, she battled these self-censoring, self-protective instincts. The result is a beautifully peculiar and quietly ambitious collection of synth-pop, art-pop, indie rock and folk songs that reflect a new willingness to let listeners into her world. Lindsay grew up tinkering with instruments in her bedroom in Ipswich, Massachusetts. InchI've always craved big, layered sounds, Inch Lindsay says. After graduating from Wesleyan in 2012 with a degree in music, she formed her first band with her brother Jack Lindsay, a 5-piece group called Grammar. She spent her 20's quietly making music and working at a sculpture studio in Massachusetts until she was discovered on Soundcloud by a manager. He encouraged her to move to Brooklyn and introduced her to other musicians, with whom she formed a band. The first iteration of Barrie was a 5-piece group who released their debut album Happy To Be Here in 2019, earning buzzy press, TV syncs and new fans around the globe. A month after Happy to Be Here's , the band announced they'd parted ways and Lindsay reintroduced Barrie as a solo project. This decision coincided with two events that redefined Lindsay's life and shaped Barbara. In the summer of 2019, she met her now- wife, the musician Gabby Smith of Gabby's World, while they were on tour. Simultaneously, Lindsay's father learned that his lung cancer had worsened. In January of 2020, she moved home to Ipswich to spend time with family and began working on her album. Three months became nine, thanks to the pandemic. Lindsay w
