About this product
Violinist Alena Baeva joins Alpha Classics for several recordings, starting with an album of chamber music with pianist Vadym Kholodenko, her favourite partner. Together they offer an eclectic and unusual programme of Schubert's fearsome and magnificent Fantasy for violin and piano, composed a year before his death... This is followed by Stravinsky's joyous and boisterous miniatures in a collection entitled Divertimento, proposed as an abridgement of the ballet Le Baiser de la fee (The Fairy's Kiss). Olivier Messiaen composed a Fantaisie for his first wife, the violinist Claire Delbos, but the work was not published until 2007. Die Marchenbilder by Schumann complete the programme. Initially a pupil at the Moscow Conservatory, Alena Baeva later left Russia and was taught by Shlomo Mintz, Mstislav Rostropovich, Boris Garlitsky and Seiji Ozawa. At just 16, she won the Grand Prize in the Henryk Wieniawski International Competition, and many other prizes followed. Alena Baeva plays the Guarneri del Gesù Inchex-William KrollInch of 1738. Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko was awarded the Van Cliburn Gold Medal in 2013.

On June 23, 2023, Annika Socolofsky, a composer and avant-folk vocalist who explores colorful corners of the human voice - tones and timbres and techniques often dismissed as InchuntrainedInch or InchunClassicalInch - releases Don't Say a Word, an album of feminist-rager lullabies for the new queer era. Socolofsky, a Inchgrotesquely gorgeousInch (Chicago Tribune), an Inchunbearably movingInch (Gramophone) composer, possesses Inchjust the right balance between edgy precision and freewheeling exuberanceInch (The Guardian). And on Don't Say a Word, a rebellion against the hetero-patriarchy, her voice carries us to worlds tender and violent and everything in between.

Lost, way out sound from San Francisco's Mojo Men! There Goes My Mind finds The Mojo Men in full control of their high-wire blend of boy-girl vocals. They had regional, British Invasion-style hits in 1965-66, and even hit national top 40 in 1967! Abetted principally by sparkling keyboard wizardry, winsome vocals, and lavish guitars, this is your ticket to one of West Coast's best psychedelic garage bands. CD
