About this product

London trio Value Void are an offbeat proposition. Paz Maddio and Marta Zabala grew up with each other south of Buenos Aires, where the seeds of this project were sown. Marta first came to London on tour with art punks Los Cripis, where she met Luke Tristram (of Cop, Score and Owner) who released their record via his Unwork tag. Paz followed to join them and scrape rent from the city's bars and cafes. By early 2017 the three of them were holed up in practice rooms, Luke adding Evens-esque basslines that laid concrete to their minimalist guitar-lead pop songs. In April of that year, they recorded with Euan Hinshelwood of Young Husband at TVT. The intention was casual but the results, seven dazzlingly assured songs nailed in a couple of days, sucked attention from several quarters as they skipped between hard drives. Upon deciding to flesh the songs out for a full length, they returned to TVT studios with Euan in April this year, tweaking the mix and laying down two new songs InchMind,Inch a down tempo lullaby/lament in which the band track into the territory of early St. Vincent, Grouper or Julianna Barwick, supported by a raw dirge that blossoms in feedback, and InchThe Deluge,Inch which is also reflective but structured by a roaming curiosity and big chorus seeking road movie oblivion. The album is instantly affecting, with an ease and clarity that suits the elegance of the lyrics coded love songs and cool reflections on life which are all the more vulnerable and touching sung in Paz Maddio's lilting, ultrachromatic voice - a ceramic-sharp diagonal transatlantic on a pure open tone, with subtle waves of vibrato at it's top end. It's a particular heart breaker on tracks such as InchBabelandInch and InchDead Ladies LamentInch. Restricted to a palette of drums, bass, guitar and double tracked vocals caught on 2Inch tape, coloured here and there with a daub of feedback

Felix Lee - Inna Daze - VINYL LP

Felix Lee has created a world for his debut album InchInna DazeInch, a kind of post-human environment where the sun never really rises and everything is lit with a burnt out glow. These are survival ballads for the near future, whose vocals, mutated to fit into this setting, drift in a haze of dissociation. Musically, at first glance, it's sparse and minimal but with continued immersion, subtle iridescent-light shadows shimmer around grainy colour, sub bass rises through kicks and snares retooled from their surroundings, not so much refixed as decaying. Felix has been here before in his incarnation as Lexxi, making his debut appearance on Total Freedom's 2012 InchBlasting VoiceInch compilation, and as a co-producer on Elysia Crampton's InchDemon CityInch album. He then went on to his first instrumental EP Inch5TARB01Inch in 2016 on his own imprint Endless. He also runs an NTS show of the same name, along with previously holding raves, cross pollinating and interacting with the vanguard of the electronic underground. The punky crunch of those earlier releases is reflected in tracks like InchSmokeInch made with long time collaborator and southside resident Kamixlo. These club moments inevitably give way to the vocals, conveying a feeling of loss and renewal. Intended to exist both inside and outside the club, it's an electronic music that at times feels like a skeletal take on shoegaze, solidifying that feeling with the intense rising synths of the album closer InchSlow DecayInch. Inna Daze's features include Drain Gang members Ecco2k and Whitearmor, Yayoyanoh, Quantum Natives' Oxhy, and Gaika, as well as Felix making his debut as a vocalist, his voice filtered through effects to give it a slippery, steam-like texture, echoing around the songs, giving them a second skin of sensed abstraction. One of the most thoughtful and interesting debuts of 2019, InchInna DazeInch

The Cast - Yeah Yeah Yeah - VINYL LP

Yeah Yeah Yeah just arrived out of the blue. I just took a chance. I had some ideas for a new album I'd been working on, but we weren't planning on recording until the year after. It all happened very fast. There was a window of opportunity- youth was free, the studio was free, and the band were free- and I thought, let Providence prevail. No one had heard the songs apart from myself and Alan McGee, but we both thought that we had something. You could feel it, even though none of the songs were really finished, and so we decided to roll with it and go and record them. I think with Yeah Yeah Yeah it was more than just trying to capture a vibe- it was about trying to record something majestic, which is how youth describes the record. There are gospels and strings on tracks like Free Love and don't look away, which have kind of turned into these massive anthems. It has P.P. Arnold as a featured vocalist on a couple of tracks- the first, the single poison vine, which has a groove and a blistering chorus. She's also on another song that's a psychedelic funk track the way it's gotta be (oh yeah). Songs like Teardrops or Birds Heading South- we've tried to capture that classic, slightly Wistful theme- whereas the weight of the world just rocks out. There's also a little acoustic track to break it all up called the devil and the deep, which is a favourite of mine. We recorded the album over in Spain at space mountain, Youth's studio, way up in the mountains, just as the almond trees were in blossom- which I took as a good omen for the session. Album Tracks 1. Poison Vine 2. Don't Look Away 3. Calling Out Your Name 4. Free Love 5. Say Something New 6. Way It's Gotta Be (Oh Yeah) 7. Devil and the Deep 8. Weight of the World 9. Teardrops 10. Birds Heading South
