About this product
Vinyl LP pressing. It's the 25th anniversary of this criminally under-appreciated compilation of Brazilian pop music (New! More! Better!), so we're putting it on vinyl for the first time. Here's what the guy behind the compilation had to say about it when we put it out InchBrazilians are the original masters of mixology, blend and hybridization. We're just catching up to what they've been doing for years, decades even. It's been 10 years since we at Luaka Bop released our first compilation of Brazilian music. Beleza Tropical. It sold extremely well, 350,000 and still going strong, but a lot has happened since then. That first record reflected the coming of age, the maturity, of the tropicalismo generation-the late 60s revolutionary movement in the arts that advocated cultural cannibalism absorbing, IncheatingInch and appropriating anything and everything from anywhere. This new collection reflects the impact and energy of a new generation who rather than seeking to overturn or discredit the work of it's predecessors, wants to build on it, add to it, and continue absorbing greater and more contemporary influences. Rap, sampling, psychedelia, new and no-wave, funk and punk are routinely swallowed up and mixed with a myriad of Brazilian styles-the swing of samba, the pounding massed drums of Bloco Afro, the dance grooves of axé. The result is so transcendent, so full of life, that it counters the negativity of all the S**t that's going down, to paraphrase the Isleys. The music fights the power.Inch - David Byrne.

Double vinyl LP pressing. Digitally remastered edition with new notes from David Byrne. InchWow when did this first come out? 1989? Over 30 years ago! I listened to some of the songs yesterday and, well, they hold up, they're truly timeless songs. In my notes at the time, I wrote about the way this music joined musical sophistication with memorable pop melodies and often social and political commentary. Like Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On', this music mixed sensuality with pointed social engagement. I learned that though we often feel like screaming we can also couch our awareness and frustrations in beauty and rhythm-which often makes a more seductive and effective argument than a scream-though a scream can be pretty damn cathartic for sure. But as beautiful as the songs sound their message was pointed enough that some of these artists were jailed and forced into exile. Beauty can be pointed.Inch -David Byrne, 2021.
![Charley Patton - Complete Recordings 1929-34 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/adfe1be3-c6ae-441c-854f-d30cc3da8740.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Charley Patton is widely regarded as perhaps the archetypal early exponent of Mississippi Delta blues. He was a true original with a distinctive slide guitar technique, and he performed a range of blues, spirituals and ballads in a powerful, intense, even primitive, fashion which uniquely captures the style and spirit of the genre. His recording career was restricted to a few sessions between 1929 and 1934, from which around thirty double-sided '78s were released, first on Paramount and latterly on Vocalion, and that was the entirety of his recorded output before his premature death from a heart disorder in 1934 aged 45. This collection comprises the entirety of that canon, including six tracks on which he played guitar, with Henry Sims and Bertha Lee erspectively performing the vocals. Anyone seriously interested in the blues and it's history needs to have heard Charley Patton, and this anthology provides a comprehensive overview of his work.
