Sigiswald Kuijken is one of the most important pioneers of the early music scene and celebrates his 80th birthday on 16 February 2024. Throughout his life as a musician, he has looked far beyond Inchclassical violin playingInch. Even as a student, he explored baroque playing techniques on the violin and developed a milestone in historical violin playing without a support or chin rest, with the instrument resting freely on his shoulder. He learnt to play the viola da gamba at a young age as a self-taught musician. In 2004, he first advocated the revival of the violoncello da spalla - and played the shoulder cello, which was the actual basso continuo instrument in the Baroque period and was completely forgotten in the course of history. As a university teacher, Sigiswald Kuijken has influenced generations of musicians and recorded countless discs himself. To mark his anniversary, he presents himself and his audience with a very personal recording and introduces Inchhis three instrumentsInch - the violin, the viola da gamba and the violoncello da spalla - with selected unaccompanied solo works. The compositions are by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, Thomas Baltzar, Diego Ortiz, Carl Friedrich Abel and Johann Sebastian Bach. Michael Hirsch began to work as a composer in 1976, with occasional interruptions for theatre engagements. In addition to instrumental music and music theatre, the genre of musique concrète is an important part of his compositional oeuvre as is illustrated impressively by the works recorded on this CD InchLa Didone abbandonataInch is based on the opera seria text of the same name by Pietro Metastasio from 1724. For his version Hirsch reduced the number of the dramatis personae to the two protagonists Dido and Aeneas and distilled their texts down to one monologue each - combining these sometimes to create dialogues - in order to present the core of this drama about a relationship in the most concentrated form possible.The musique concrète compositions Inch5. StudieInch and InchUmbau 2Inch are associated with Hirsch's project InchDas KonvolutInch [InchThe ConvolutionInch], in which pieces, concepts and materials from various sources and genres are brought together. The present version of Inch5. StudieInch was composed especially for this CD. InchUmbau 2Inch is generated from the supplementary material for his opera InchDas stille ZimmerInch [InchThe Quiet RoomInch].There are some obvious musical connections between the InchString QuartetInch and InchTragicomediaInch various musical elements, particularly harmonic structures from the quartet, were developed further in the madrigal opera. The content of InchTragicomediaInch is based on a key work of Spanish literature InchLa tragicomedia de Calisto y MelibeaInch by Fernando de Rojas (ca. 1499). Hirsch's composition combines and jumbles dialogue fragments from the literary sources so that they are constantly hovering between a linear narrative and understandable storyline and an associative collage. The 500th anniversary of the death of Emperor Maximilian I this year is the occasion for several exhibitions and also for the programme of the ensemble Per-Sonat's new . Maximilian, who was crowned Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 1508, was a great patron of the arts in addition to his warlike activities. Here the music was in his special interest and he brought the most important musicians of his time to his court Heinrich Isaac, Josquin des Pres, Paul Hofhaimer and Johannes Ockeghem.
