About this product
This unique harpsichord recital by Trevor Pinnock charts two incredible musical journeys four hundred years apart. Inspired by the travels of Antonio Cabezón, the sixteenth-century organist and composer, Pinnock's programme weaves a path not only through Cabezón's life but also through his own enviable career. In celebration of his seventieth birthday, Pinnock has chosen a personal selection of works that evoke vivid memories from different stages of his life. Success in their respective careers led both Pinnock and Cabezón to travel widely; Cabezón's journeys through Europe resulted in meetings with several of the composers included in this program. Journey sees Pinnock perform repertoire spanning two hundred years (encompassing works by Tallis, Byrd, Bull, Sweelinck, Bach, Frescobaldi, Handel and Scarlatti) on his favorite home instrument, a harpsichord made in 1982 after a model by the mid eighteenth-century French builder, Henri Hemsch. Pinnock's own journey has seen him recognized as one of the finest players of his generation, receiving many prizes and international recognition along the way whilst amassing an exceptional discography; his truly is an epic journey. The journey of this album started in Karlsruhe where Fruzsina Hara and Antonio Faillaci were studying in the class of Prof. Reinhold Friedrich and started playing the baroque trumpet with Dr. Edward H. Tarr. During these years they not only became good friends but also developed a mutual musical appreciation. Later Fruzsina became an internationally renowned professional baroque trumpet soloist who also performs with different ensembles and Antonio, also a modern and baroque trumpet soloist became professor at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italia in Lugano, Switzerland. Bologna (then the Papal States, now Italy), as one of the chief musical centers of the Italian peninsula, has maintained a practically uninterrupted outstanding tradition of music. Kremsier, a town in central Moravia (now Kromeriz, Check Republic), was the residence of the bishops of Olomouc from the 13th century onwards. Bishop Karl II von Lichtenstein - Castelcorno rebuilt the city and the palace after the war which brought the most brilliant period of time in the history of Kremsier. The bishop not only rebuilt the residence and the town but also maintained a well-equipped court orchestra. It's leader was the trumpeter and composer Pavel Vejvanovsky. Join us on this journey from Bologna to Kromeriz!

The Voce Quartet writes InchPlaying the demanding and constantly shifting string quartet repertory is enough to fill up four lives. Buoyed up by this heritage, we wanted to explore less well-known territories. In the early years of the twentieth century, Bartok and Kodaly roamed the villages of Hungary and Romania, collecting, transcribing and recording hundreds of folk tunes and songs. Building on a number of encounters with leading figures of jazz and world music, we asked five instrumentalist-composers to write us pieces inspired by musical worlds to which they feel close. In addition to these new compositions, we wanted to record Escalay by the Egyptian oud player Hamza el Din who died in 2006, a nod to the Kronos Quartet whose approach is an inspiration to us.Inch The Voce Quartet is Sarah Dayan and Cecile Roubin (violins), Guillaume Becker, and Lydia Shelley. Album Tracks 1. Bethklang 2. In the Element 3. Méditation 4. Danse 5. Suite Capoeira 6. Sawah Padi / Putri Cening Ayu 7. Escalay (Water Wheel)
